There are two simple solutions: Stop selling beer at the stadiums or increase the police presence. Baseball claims to be America's pastime, so when did that include beer?

Some people clearly become belligerent when drunk, and since when does one have to drink alcohol to enjoy a game?

Security lapses are clearly the responsibility of the owner, and in this case McCourt should pay for Stow's medical expenses, plus damages. If I were the Stow family I'd be suing McCourt and the Dodgers.

The show of improving security is a joke, and too late. What used to be the state of the art stadium has gotten worse and this isn't the only incident where a Giants fan was attacked; one was _shot some years back at Dodger Stadium.

I really hate to say this but I don't think he will make it. My mother was in a medically induced coma because of seizures and the couple of times that they tried to bring her out of it she continued to have seizures, it seems like he has suffered to much brain damage. I think the family should say their final goodbyes and learn to live life after this tragic accident because someone could not control their anger. It will be one of the hardest decisions they will probably have to make in their lives because when I had to it was difficult for me. God Bless and I Pray for this Family to have strength.

a couple years ago when I was living in Boston, the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the ALCS and there was some "riots" in the street. Cars were overturned and people were trampled. The city did it's best to find the offenders, but never did. People were outraged that there was not enough police presence.
The next season the same type of rioting was expected so the City called in lots of extra police to patrol the area. One of the police ended up firing his gun (plastic pellet of whatever they use for crowd control) and hit someone in the face killing them. People complained of the over policed area.

I'm not sure I have a point to this senseless violence, but I have my money that there will soon be complaints of too many police at sporting events soon enough.....

This event is a senseless tragedy. I wish nothing more than the perps brought to justice and a full recovery for Mr. Stow.
That said, to say Los Angeles and the Golden State "died in 90's" is asinine Code Talk. Stop the dramaqueen act.

Sports have been hyped so much that they are very much mock wars. I am so glad my Father did not live to see this attack or what has happened to big league sports.

Mock wars is a very good analogy. I quit going and so have most of my friends because of the boorish mentality of the crowds. I say crowds because fans don't act that way.

It's spreading beyond sports now too. My daughter's college graduation was just unreal. People yelled out and when their relative had received their diploma they just got up and left. It made a disaster of what should have been a really beautiful event. There was hooting and screaming and stomping of feet too. The only thing missing was the beer and the fighting.

Laws prevent the Dodgers from preventing gangbangers from buying tickets to games. How is it that Disneyland is so successful at keeping gangbangers out of their park, given that they are subject to the same laws? Any thoughts?

gangbangers? you have any evidence for that?
10:10 PM on 04/18/2011
Yeah....there's lots of evidence. Like go to a damned Dodger game and take a look at the fans.

Forget Disneyland; ask the folks who run Magic Mountain up the road from DL. Gangs took over that park in the 80s and 90s; now, there is such a security presence that one can take their family to MM and feel safe. If I'm Frank McCourt AND if I really cared to deal with this problem of gangbangers at Dodgers Stadium, I'd be on the horn to MM to find out how they turned around their security (and image) problem.

But Frank McCourt will see to it that he stays on life support forever.

unless you're an American Indian either are you...if YOU'RE here it's yours...own it. I'm kind of tired of the self righteous piety over immigrants and those that "snuck here"...it is what it is and it happened in your house...is the guy that yacked on the kid in Philly "from here"...how about the old man that took a pop at the guy during the US Open..American?

Go to Venezuela and come back with a true comparison. This is a wonderful country except to you and some of your friends.
