Easter Sunday is the culmination of the Christian season of Lent and the end of Holy Week, and marks the central event in Christian theology. To help embrace the spirit of rebirth and renewal that this springtime holiday brings, we've compiled several of the most common Bible passages associated with the Easter story along with some popular quotations on the subject of Easter.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead ... 1 Peter 1:3

Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the dead. Isaiah 26:19 ESV

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me." Matthew 28:1-10

And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him. Mark 16:6

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. John 3:16-17

I think of the garden after the rain;
And hope to my heart comes singing,
At morn the cherry-blooms will be white,
And the Easter bells be ringing!
Edna Dean Proctor, "Easter Bells"

The joyful news that He is risen does not change the contemporary world. Still before us lie work, discipline, sacrifice. But the fact of Easter gives us the spiritual power to do the work, accept the discipline, and make the sacrifice. Henry Knox Sherrill

Easter tells us that life is to be interpreted not simply in terms of things but in terms of ideals. Charles M. Crowe

Easter says you can put truth in a grave, but it won't stay there. Clarence W. Hall

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

God tried and tried to come up with a bunny that could lay eggs. The best he could come up with is the platypus, so he gave up. Instead he created the Abrahamic religions.

The flowers and nature are so beautiful today. God reveals his majesty in nature and what a wonderful day for God to reveal the beauty of his creation. I don't think I've seen an Easter in such bloom in a long time. It was rainy yesterday and friday but the sun is shining today and its warm and glowing outside.

God bless you all and have a happy easter!

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.â€

Jesus should take a good look at today's Christian. He might change his mind.

The incident immediately followed the arrest of the Messiah in the garden of Gethsemane.

Mark 14:51-2
And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about [his] naked [body]; and the young men laid hold on him; And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them nakÄ—d.

I never heard a preacher or priest telling the Easter story about a young man in the garden of Gethsenane with Jesus before he was nailed, have U ?_

I absolutely love the pointed accuracy of quotes from those who don't follow the normal church lady dogma and really have something to contribute to our society: Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, James Madison, W. C. Fields, Yogi Berra, Albert Einstein, Robert Oppenheimer, Mae West and of course Mark Twain.

Too little energy and too little space to list the rest, sorry.

He lives! He lives!
Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way
He lives! He lives!
Salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives
He lives within my heart
