Kate Middleton Will Not 'Obey' Prince William In Vows: Report (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 04/22/11 11:19 AM ET Updated: 06/22/11 06:12 AM ET

In Friday's "Good Morning America" royal wedding roundup, we learn that Queen Elizabeth II has officially given her permission for Prince William and Catherine to marry -- just in time for the nuptials which are now one week away. Wills and Kate apparently discussed public scrutiny and how it will impact their marriage with the Archbishop of Canterbury, then there's the requisite discussion of Kate's weight and a revelation that Issa designer Daniella Helayel scored an invitation to the ceremony (cue a new round of speculation that she's The Dress Designer).

Perhaps most interestingly, Nick Watt reports that Kate will "love," "honor" and "keep" her husband in her vows, however she will not "obey," breaking with tradition. Diana also decided not to use the "o" word at her 1981 wedding, but subsequent royal wives including Sarah Ferguson and Sophie Rhys-Jones reverted to the classic parlance, the Daily Mail points out.

Who might know the answer to this: my understanding is that when Prince William becomes King, his wife (Kate) will be titled "Queen". When Prince Charles becomes King, his wife (Camilla) will not be titled "Queen". The current Queen's husband, Prince Philip, is not titled "King". Why?

Camila will be Queen. Philip is the Prince Consort.

Travishamockery -- travesty of a sham of a mockery -- that U.S. news outlets are all over there.

What do they think the 4th of July is about???

well, for the same reason that European news media outlets focus on our Presidential elections. in any case, if you don't like the Royal wedding don't watch. it's a free country.

I didn't say "obey" fifteen years ago and the priest didn't even have to ask - he just did.

No woman should have to "obey" her husband, because in this day and age, that would suggest that she isn't an equal. However, if men were smarter, they would vow to "obey", because if they did, it would save a lot of clean up around the house, mess ups with the kids' schedules, and overall confusion.

LOL. You've got to be specific over and over again. I quickly learned that leaving a prepared chicken on the top shelf of the fridge was not enough for him to get the chicken in the oven. A note and phone call were also necessary.

What's the big deal? She's a grown woman and not a little child who needs an authority figure to tell her what to do. Besides, Prince William isn't going to wear a wedding ring and I don't see the big deal about that either. He doesn't like to wear jewelry.

I'm imagining an SNL type scenario where Charles and Queeny are trying to strongarm Kate, and they both have those evil cockney accents..lol.

Good for her. Better not to start a marriage with a promise that everyone knows is a lie.

Nobody who wears those hats could possibly be open to obeying anybody. Actually the value in the "obedience" part of the oath is to establish grounds for apology and forgiveness after women disobey and must be saved from unfortunate consequences. Women must disobey and we must teach and forgive them.

I guess that logic worked well hundreds of years ago when only men were taught to read. However, nowadays, most women I know out earn their husbands, so the point is mute.

Good for her! I have no idea why anyone would want to recite that. Eff that! Unless he's gonna obey, why should she?

It's entirely possible that they could be obedient toward each other, without making a verbal declartion of it.
12:12 AM on 04/29/2011
Could be they know how to read the Bible and simply want to follow God's direction.

Think she obeyed enough already no? Giving up all her ambitions and goals to aspire to be royal?
