Versus Announcer Declares Wrong Winner As Game Ends (VIDEO)

It's times like these that not only give Versus a bad name, but the NHL as well.

As a critical playoff game was decided in double overtime in Boston, the announcer called the goal scorer's name, then proclaimed the Canadiens had won the game and taken a 3-2 series lead.

Only problem: the exact opposite happened. Nathan Horton's dramatic goal lifted Boston to a 3-2 series lead, not Montreal.

The high-profile gaffe couldn't have happened at a more important juncture in the series, as it was knotted 2-2 and the game itself was locked 1-1. The overtime call was sure to confuse more casual fans, and for others listening, it was just downright embarrassing.

Listen for yourself... The call is clearly: "And the Canadiens now lead it three games to two!" Oops.

It's not like the uniforms look the same. Just a mistake from a likely tired announcer, I know I was from all the times that game could have ended but Tim and Price kept it going.

My wife hates me now for all the weird noises I was making watching this game. Very intense, both goalies were unbelievable. This series has been a gem! Let's Go Bruins!

Versus is a low-rent neophyte network that spends very little money on it personnel. Thus, you get lousy directors, lousy announcers and a generally talentless pool of wannabes staffing their shows. This is a shining example of their "best work."

it's their job to know the players & how to pronounce their names plus to know the game. I as a hockey fan am so tired of these announcers not knowing enough about the sport! I am not happy that VS & NBC got the contract for hockey again.

It's really very simple, boys ... the best announcer in the NHL was the late, great Dan Kelly ... now the torch has been passed to MIKE EMRICK ... he is THE MAN ... he and Eddie O. make a great team !

most people prefer listening to the game with someone who can add insight on the action whereas emeeks prefers listening to the carnival barker in Buffalo who never played the game, guess if you like superficiality-emeeks has the best perspective
