Reporting from San Francisco and Los Angeles-- More than once, Norma recalls, she yearned to dial 911 when her partner hit her. But the undocumented mother of a U.S.-born toddler was too fearful of police and too broken of spirit to do so.

In October, she finally worked up the courage to call police -- and paid a steep price.

Officers who responded found her sobbing, with a swollen lower lip. But a red mark on her alleged abuser's cheek prompted police to book them both into the San Francisco County Jail while investigators sorted out the details.

The "injustice" that this article (go read it) wants to imply is based on the distorted effects of having so many people living in this country illegally.

When there are tens of millions of people living here illegally, the presumption is that our overwhelmed law enforcement should only go after the worst of the worst - felons, violent offenders, drug traffickers, etc.

So when an illegal who  Read More...

Don't just love the pro illegal alien mind set. Breaking the law by entering the US illegally is not a crime.

Round them all up and send them home where ever that is. If they want a better chance, let them fight to make their home country sucessful, all they do here is rob sucess from Americans.

With the all the paid La Raza advocates and bleeding heart fringe types here, it's easier for them to come here, take advantage of our social services and take our jobs rather than fight for their country. Why would they put themselves out? Fanned & Fav'd/

Perhaps people should familiarize themselves with the intent of the Secure Communities program before they comment. The program is supposed to deport those convicted of violent crimes. Period. If it is not doing that and only that, it is failing in its own mission and should be revised.

If, however, the intent is to find undocumented immigrants and deport them, then it should say that and do that.

I do not like being pissed on and told it's raining.

Lastly, I do not like the idea that someone who lives in my community, undocumented or not, would be afraid to call the police to get help for themselves or someone else, maybe myself because of this crappy program. Local police are supposed to be protecting and serving. This program does not make me feel safe. Quite the contrary.

Do you know what a nonemployer business is?
10:29 AM on 05/01/2011
I do hope you realize that a noncrimnal is also someone that is lawfully arrested for a felony, but the charges are reduced, like Lindsay Lohan, to a misdemeanor. But ICE still has to deport someone that is in the USA without authorization from the USA government.

You can be lawfully arrested for many misdemeanors as well, google misdemeanors and you will see. There are varying degrees of misdemeanors, the highest levels of which are very serious, but may be considered noncriminal. If found guilty, you will serve your sentence and later be deported.

A noncriminal is also someone that may have been found not guilty of the crime they were initially lawfully arrested for, but that does not mean they are innocent of being inside the USA as an illegal alien.

ICE must deport a noncriminal, because it really does not matter if ICE Secure Communities netted someone that was found not guilty for the crime they were lawfully arrested for. ICE is supposed to deport illegal aliens, no matter who the program may accidentally come across

I read the entire article, and couldn't find anything about "noncriminals" being deported in it. They were all illegals, so all criminals, obviously. Why run a headline that has nothing to do with the story?

Technically, not a criminal until arrested, booked, &/or found / plead guilty to an unlawful act.

Living unlawfully in the USA is not a criminal act ~ until caught & convicted

Until then ~ it's being a "fugitive" from U.S. Federal Law

Sorry, but you just admitted that it was a criminal act, when you used the term 'unlawfully'. Unlawfully is the opposite of lawfully. See how that works? It doesn't matter if one has been arrested, booked and/or found/plead guilty.

Now the first person who came here without following the law can be excused. But everyone flowing into this country since knows that they are committing a criminal act. Why else would they stay in the shadows? Why would they use illegal means to get here? Because they know.

Btw, a fugitive has been arrested, booked and/or found/plead guilty. Notice the wanted posters?

In this time of record unemployment and economic hardship for millions of Americans we call on Congress to institute an immediate moratorium on, and investigation of abuses of, the U.S. Guest Worker Visa programs commonly referred to as H1 and H2 visa programs.

These programs, intended as stop-gap measures to fill needed positions in specialty areas have been abused through loopholes to eliminate American workers and replace them with a permenant pool of lower paid foreign "guest" workers.

Yep - that rob has common sense. And also knows we can't possibly allow anyone who manages to get here illegally, break several of our laws, pop out an anchor that taxpayers have to pay for and avoid detection for years as a test for citizenship.

There will be no justice until employers are REGULARLY punished as severely as the undocumented workers are. There will be no justice until poverty wages are made illegal. There will be no justice until international trade agreements favor labor as much as capital. The present system encourages low wages in this country and low wages in Mexico and Central America. The present system favors the distribution of wealth to the economically elite in this country and in Mexico and Central America.

04:46 PM on 04/25/2011
Not sure what your point is, but mine was that the article's title referred to "non-criminal" illegal aliens, which is impossible as they are all criminals and yes, a misdemeanor is a crime.

The penalty for a speeding ticket is a fine. The penalty for being in the country illegaly is deportation. Seems fair enough, and I agree with you - people need to pay for their crimes, as you pointed out to Forward.

Get deported and do it a second, and you are a felon.

Why would you take the risk to become a felon.....unless you already were on the lam?

immigration reform is constantly made into a racial issue by the left instead of being a political issue. the sad truth is that it is both a political and racial issue and the 2 can not be seperated. The problem is that the overwhelming majority of the illegal immigrants that the border states are referring to are hispanic. its just a fact. That however does not change the fact there there is a major problem with illegal immigration in these states. So what can we do lefties? how can this not be "the GOP against mexicans" and instead be the US v illegal aliens?

Keep your eyes open CAhye. It already is US v illegal aliens. It's just that those in favor of open borders want others to think its not and lay it all on one party. Many American citizens of both parties and Independents feel the same way. To be very honest most of us do not blame the illegals. It is our government under Multi National Corporation control and the Mexican government's influence that is allowing this. The people are just their pawns.

Young lady, do yourself and this country a favor and go home to your country of origin. Laws are laws. I sorry your partner beat you and he should be punished for that.
