Convicted Sex Offender Arrested At Montana Easter Egg Hunt

MISSOULA, Mont. -- Authorities in Montana say a convicted sex offender was arrested at a Missoula-area Easter egg hunt after one of his victims recognized him there.

Deputy Ken White tells the Missoulian that 67-year-old William Harvey Suthers was arrested Saturday afternoon in East Missoula and was being held in the county jail on a probation violation.

Suthers was convicted of two counts of sexual assault after a girl told police Suthers assaulted her while he was babysitting her and her brother in 1992. She was 10 at the time.

He was given a suspended sentence in 1998 and was forbidden from having contact with anyone under the age of 18 except his sons.

Whether someone si convivted or not has nothing to do with morality or their guilt. For all we know the da dropped it dueto outside pressure or funds coming in. Ask yourself how easy it is to convict someone with a public defendant.

If we don't change the way we are reacting to these people then...we will create a real problem. We can't continue to exclude these people from society. We are driving these people outside of society. If we continue to force them to the fringes of society and continue to change their sentences at random (sometimes 20 or 30 years after their crime) then we will eventually create a class of "sub-humans" who owe nothing to society and care not. There is no "murderer registry", "child-abuser registry" or "domestic-violence registry"! We label these people like Cain, take away their right to defend themselves and force them onto the streets! This is a debacle! It's time for REAL Liberals and Libertarians (and Cons and Libs) to get their heads on straight. This is a real issue that will eventually blow up in our face... Sheer numbers....

The difference is that most child predators will never change their habits. It is even debated whether they are able to change.

Put them around children, and they will do everything in their power to lure children into trusting them.

It's a very different issue than those convicted of murder, or even domestic/child abuse, although those two have their own issues. There is a compulsion in child predators that doesn't exist in many other crimes.

But what about sez stings then? They create situations with fake victims thata re brought on by cops in many cases, in my case I adtually badked out once and they kept pestering me to meet. Why? Just cause the mom of the girl who liked talking to me herself got the cops (her friends) involved. How would you like to be accussed of a what if crime with little evidende and without briging any condoms and after backing out once to just meet a girl?

I think the question you should be asking is, why were you wanting to meet the girl in the first place?

If I were the girl's mother, I would have gotten the police involved, too. If you agreed to meet after continued "pestering", then something was driving you to really want to meet this girl. Adult men have no business trying to build relationships with girls under 18, and it says a lot that the "pestering" worked. You show typical predator blame-shifting: i.e., "I wouldn't have done it if they didn't make me. It wasn't my fault; I'm an innocent victim of a sting".

Based on this experience, will you continue to go after meeting young girls?

This man is sick.  Even more sick is the judge who gave him a suspended sentence.  Makes me wonder who is protecting whom and for what reason?

There is no cure for these folks and the fact that a 67 year old man was at an Easter Egg hunt kind of proves the point.
