CNET News:

Like Apple and Google, Microsoft collects records of the physical locations of customers who use its mobile operating system.
Windows Phone 7, supported by manufacturers including Dell, HTC, LG, Nokia, and Samsung, transmits to Microsoft a miniature data dump including a unique device ID, details about nearby Wi-Fi networks, and the phone's GPS-derived exact latitude and longitude.

Instead of the info coming out in trickles..
Let's just say that ALL cellphones track you.

Geesh, cellphones have to connect to a cellphone tower to gain a signal every time you place a call or look up information.

This is all becoming a bit to big brotherish for my liking. The fact that the government can get information to track your movement with out a warrant. Added to the fact that this was slipped into the phones with no consent from the users has turned me off from these devices.

Why is HP so biased against Microsoft? Microsoft might have been evil at one time, but compared to recent behavior from Google/Android and Apple they are looking better and better...

Microsoft told PCMag unequivocally that phones running Windows Phone 7 do not store location history. Like most other phones, the platform offers plenty of location-based apps, and those apps require user consent before they begin tracking. Windows Phones also offer the common feature of a "global switch" that lets the user disable all location services, and Microsoft says its "Find My Phone" service keeps only the phone's most recent location.
