Photojournalist Is Mourned At NYC Church Service
NEW YORK -- A New York-based photographer killed in Libya is being remembered for images that spoke for the suffering people of the world.
More than 1,000 friends, relatives and colleagues filled a Brooklyn church on Wednesday at a Mass for Chris Hondros. He was working for Getty Images when he was struck by mortar fire in Misrata last week.
The Mass was held at Sacred Hearts St. Stephens Church, where the 41-year-old photojournalist would have been married in August.
He died while covering rebels fighting Libyan troops, producing images that are still circulating in the media.
Another photojournalist, Tim Hetherington, was killed there the same day, and two others severely injured.
Services also will be held Saturday in North Carolina, where he was raised.
