Raiders' Stadium Renamed Overstock.com Coliseum, Irony Ensues

Oakland Raiders Stadium

The Oakland-Alameda Coliseum Authority has announced a deal that would rename the home stadium of the Raiders and A's to Overstock.com Coliseum.

Ironic?

The Raiders had the lowest home attendance in the NFL last year averaging 46,431 attendees per game at home, a 73.7 percentage. The A's didn't exactly do so great themselves, finishing the season with the second to lowest attendance in the MLB, with an average of 17,511 attendees per game (a 40.1 percentage).

We wonder if this means there will be plenty of those extra tickets on Overstock.

The agreement will likely run for six years at $7.2 million, and though the company is trying to rebrand itself as O.co, according to Yahoo, the name will be hard to shake. While the NFL has largely avoided somewhat ridiculous naming deals like this, the current Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum is set to have its name changed for the coming season through the next 6 years.

According to the NFL, Overstock does have a potential out in 2013, when both team's leases expire, if they chose to move.

The coliseum hasn't had a sponsor since 2008.

Who cares what the Raiders do? They left their fans in Oakland for L.A. where nobody watched them. They came limping back to Oakland and been on the bottom of the league ever since. Their games are blacked out locally because they never sell out. I stopped paying any attention to them a long time ago. Couldn't name five players on their team. Like the Niners, they were once great, but that was a long time ago.

Just another example of the sad, meandering history of the Raiders that began with the day they moved to Los Angeles.

They have not been the same since.

Overstock.com Coliseum eh? If the Raiderettes skimpy cheerleading uniforms are "half off," I'm down for the name change.

Sadly, the Bay area doesn't seem to be able to support multiple teams in the same sport. Rather than moving the A's and Raiders, perhaps the leagues should consider contracting them.

Why not give the Giants back to New York and the Raiders back to L.A.

I don't care how much money corporations throw at sports organizations, they should never sell off stadium names. Really, really dumb.

If they changed the name of Lambeau Field I'd be ticked off!

I agree. Names like Fenway Park and Wrigley Field are an abomination.
