Bijendra Kumar, India Beheading Suspect, Accused Of Cutting Girlfriend's Head Off With Knife

Bijendra Kumar India Beheading

First Posted: 04/28/11 06:23 PM ET Updated: 06/28/11 06:12 AM ET

PATNA, India (AP) — Police say that a man armed with a large knife beheaded an 18-year-old woman at her school in front of her horrified classmates in eastern India.

The attacker later told police he was in love with the victim but her parents wouldn't allow them to marry.

Police official Pravin Kumar Singh said Thursday that officers arrested Bijendra Kumar on suspicion of killing Khushbu, who uses only one name. He allegedly attacked her with a ceremonial curved weapon called a khukri as she was leaving her classroom Wednesday in the eastern city of Ranchi.

Authorities say the blade sliced her head off and she died instantly. Kumar was quickly mobbed by the other students and handed over to the police. Singh says Kumar told the police that he had also intended to kill himself.

You have information that's not in the article? Or you assume they had ample warning of his intentions, because that's how you would have done it?

1. Theres a guy with a knife just walking around a school. Not a pocket knife or a butter knife. He should have not even had it in the school to begin with. ( I'm assuming that weapons aren't allowed)
2. This isn't a live-action movie where the guy just swings his sword and the head comes off in one quick motion.
I am just assuming there was a struggle( because I'm sure she wouldn't just sit there and let him, but thats just what I think.) and as the article says, it was in front of her classmates.
I could be wrong though, because I don't have have info not in the article as you stated. ^_^

Vioence towards women is deeply entrenched in this Hindu dominated country. Why so appalled by this crime?!
07:41 PM on 05/01/2011
I am not Hundu, but this comment is false and misleading. Women, especially mothers, are respected and considered equals. they are property owners, and not considered property. women are allowed to be educated. Unfortunately women are victim of crime globally, but Hindu up bringing is not the likely cause.

Women, "especially mothers..." Now, why is that not surprising? Why can't you jsut say women, PERIOD, are respected? I am not against any religion, but most religions in the world decide how much respect a woman deserves qualified by her maternal status. People deserve respect no matter what role they play or what gender.

Well, have I got news for you. First of all, there are various strata in that society, and the rules, mores, norms are not all the same across the board. Do you know about the plight of Hindu widows? Do you know about girls being aborted or killed after birth? You need more info if what you have described is not even half the story there.

Here in the US, we often "tolerate" violence toward many "minorities," often by "turning a blind eye." We profess to largely be "Christian," but often don't act like it. Even Jesus himself commanded that we "love your enemy," but we often live by the old adage of "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." "We" have often gotten no closer to be imitators of Jesus (and his father) in 2000 yrs.

"I love you so much I could just decapitate you."

What an absolutely deranged individual.
The sad thing is they are more people like that walking around now.

" he had also intended to kill himself". Shakespeare never wrote Romeo murdering Juliet and then himself.

Maybe this is just a coincidence but the previous day the Patna city council passed an ordinance allowing khurkis and other knives on school campuses.

Barbarians come in all colors and all genders. Has anyone located the victim's head yet?
The crowd all subdued the perp, but pretty much ignored the victim's head. Exciting times, huh?
Go make more babies now.
