How To Block The Royal Wedding On Twitter & Facebook (SCREENSHOTS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 04/28/11 09:19 PM ET   Updated: 06/28/11 06:12 AM ET

We understand that not everyone may be as excited about the royal wedding as we are, but that doesn't mean Kate and William haven't taken over all of your social media accounts.

The royal wedding has seemingly taken over the internet, despite the fact that a CBS/New York Times Poll reporting that 6 percent of Americans have been following the event daily, and only 28 percent follow it even somewhat closely. Google searches for the wedding have spiked as of late.

But you might not want to have anything to do with it.

It's not easy to keep it out of your face, but it's also not impossible, especially when it comes to social media. We've put together a bunch of ways to keep the wedding madness out of your way, using third-party clients, Twitter helpers, and browser extensions that will keep the festivities out of your feeds.

Proxlet - Chrome Extension
1 of 7
It's a Chrome extension but it goes a bit deeper than that. Proxlet lets you decide what you want to see, and what you don't right on Twitter.com. Proxlet accesses your account securely and lets you filter your own stream, from users to hashtags to keywords. It'll work across all platforms.

Like any "News" agency, they'd be crazy not to cover it. Best you spend the day going for long walks. The Wedding, The Donald, The Birthers...it's all going to make "news". If you can do a better job, by all means, make a your own news site. Complaining doesn't accomplish much.

Rather watch a beautiful, elegant, cultivated, with excellent manners and beauty couple get hitched than witness the spectacle which this country was imposed on by the media with theTrAmp ridiculousness.

Now it's off to the ferry, where they will find a coach and 4, and disguises, as they speed through France to the Belgian border. There, Jacobins will capture them and return them in shame to Paris, where they will be kept in the vault until England rallies, and Prince Harry will lead a tank brigade toward the guillotine just as they are walking them up the ramp. Then Harry and William shall conquer Switzerland, finally putting an end to secret banks, while Kate waves to the crowd of reporters wearing sideways hats.

They just took them away on a couple horses. Glad that's over. My grandmother has made me record the entire week's coverage. She wants it in a boxed set, she says, or I can forget about inheriting the lower 40 acres. Dang Kansas City Royals have messed up my Tivo. Gramma gonna see a lotta dunkin. Or volleyball. Whatever they do...

I don't have a Twitter or a Facebook account so I'm safe. I wish them well but the whole media craziness is just tiresome. Weddings are for women. They could use a cardboard cut out of the groom and no one would notice.

Hey Woody---I highly recommend a Saturday Night Live episode from a few months ago where Ann Hathaway plays Kate Middleton, meeting the Queen for the 1st Time. Andy Samberg is Prince William and Fred Arnisen is the Queen. You can find it on HULU. I don't think it's on You Tube anymore. It is hilarious!

Getting upset about the Royal Wedding is absurd. If you don't care about it, don't watch. What, pray, is wrong with wanting to have a little good news? Why can't we just wish them well, as one would do any newly married or so to be married couple.

As for those bitching about taxpayers money being used. The Royal family brings in a hefty amount in tourism alone each year. This week will probably break records. So really having a Royal Wedding in the midst of all the economic strife is a godsend.

France still gets visitors in fact more visit their castles and their royals have been gone for at least hundred years or so - if anything the Windsor clan inhibits tourism

That is a ridiculous statement and shows that you clearly have no idea how much money the Royal family brings in tourism $dollars.

on every channel? their are far more important things to report. like the nuclear MELTDOWN. or the united states republican MELTDOWN, or the equal rights MELTDOWN or any of the hundreds of IMPORTANT topics. this only should concern the brithish and other so called royalty. our loyalty to england ended in 1776!

The royals aren't stamping their feet and insisting that they be covered. The media is falling over themselves to do so by choice.

I have Directv with 100+ channels, clearly it is not on every channel, it is also being broadcast live, which means it will start a 6 am and finish about 9 EST on a Friday morning. I hardly think that it is impinging on anything. What else do you need said about the nuclear meltdown that HAS to be said in the 3 hours in question? Do you think that the Republicans are going to get a clue in that time frame? They clearly haven't in the last 30 years or so, I think we are safe to take our eye off them for a moment.

As I stated before, if you don't want to watch it the change the channel. If you hurry, you might catch a rerun of American Idol or something.

Ho hum. I'l catch the style page on Saturday to see the gowns and crazy hats. That's always fun. I wish them better lives than (p)William's parents, particularly his mother. I hope Kate enjoys her role, for that's all it is. Whatever.

On the other hand, (Some of us--mostly the women! ;) ) are wearing silly froo froo hats to the library tomorrow and bringing cucumber sandwiches and scones. I'm bringing the tea and cream! A gal's gotta have fun somehow... It'l make the patrons smile and that's always good...

F+F topcatnc! All people have to do is do something else!! No one is forcing anyone to watch it! I understand that people are angry with all the terrible things that are going on in the world. We are bombarded with stories of loss life from war and violent weather, people losing homes and jobs, people going without health insurance etc. To concentrate on the negative 24/7 is only going to make people angrier. There are times when we need a distraction from all the bad things going on. I know this post will not go over well with the majority of you but I just needed to give a different perspective.

Tornadoes killed 200+ people and the news outlet have the royal wedding. It's a news channel not E! entertainment. I would at least like to see the news on the news channel. This belongs in the entertainment section, not popping at you from all sides. If you want to watch it fine, but please don't smother it on others.

I am no fan of the monarchy. But I have to laugh at so many American`s trashing them when they have their own monarchy: it`s called Wall Street. The only difference is the royals pilfer from the public above board where as Wall Street plunders tax payers under the guise of saving an economy - an economy brought to the brink by Wall Street scoundrels. In fact, the royals abscond with a much smaller portion of the public purse than the big wigs on Wall Street. So before Americans start trashing other pathetic scams, they might want to look at their own first.

The Royals that you defend are a relic.  Even when viewed as the sideshow exhibit that they are, they are still not even that popular.

I have no idea how lame people in the UK are that they need to pay attention to a "royal" clan of miscreants.

But whatever.  The loss in the UK economy and direct costs of the wedding are not my problem.  I do not need a national mascot to develop pride or have something interesting going on in my life.

The content starved media is under the impression that Americans want 24 hour coverage of this, Nothing is farther from the truth. Most people I know are going out this weekend and unplugging the TV just to avoid it. How many endless slow-mo loops of Diana can we watch?

I was looking at some entertainment props and the total estimated viewers for the wedding is 1.75 billion.

I hope it comes under.  Though I am not making the wager.

The cricket world cup held recently had over 2 billion viewers and they had a quarter of the PR that the Windsors had - CNN didn't even need to send a whole team of reporters over to cover it

I'm tempted to go on a hate parade like everyone else, but honestly, even though I genuinely don't care, I don't care "equally as much" to go out of my way to diss it. If HP (and commenters) genuinely didn't care, it wouldn't be enough of an issue to create this story.

It's possible to not care about the wedding itself or the people involved in the wedding, while still caring about the absolute idiotic level of imbalanced news coverage it is receiving.
02:47 AM on 04/29/2011
I think we're on the same page (or close enough.) I feel like the amount of attention, generally speaking, is pretty high. But a lot of these articles are similar to this one.

"TOO MUCH ATTENTION PAID TO THE ROYAL WEDDING?"

If so, it's only because news outlets keep writing about it! And that includes stories that chronicle the amount of attention it's getting (which I feel I've seen more of, then the former.)

Part of it is the counterculture factor.

If everyone else is interested in it, then it must be cool to be overtly opposed to it.
