Teen Charged In Shooting Of 12-Year-Old Boy Outside Of School

Authorities have charged a 14-year-old boy with attempted murder and aggravated battery in the shooting of a boy two years his junior in front of a South Side Chicago school.

After school let out at Cook Elementary Tuesday afternoon, the 14-year-old allegedly fired four shots from a revolver at the 12-year-old, hitting him once in the back. The shots were fired into a crowd of students being dismissed for the day, sending hundreds of children running and screaming.

But authorities believe the shooting wasn't random. Instead, according to ABC-7, the two youths were allegedly involved in an argument on Facebook. The boys, who were apparently members of rival gangs, posted threats on each other's profile pages, which police believe prompted the shooting.

The victim was in stable condition at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, but already, friends were posting on his Facebook wall vowing revenge against the shooter, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "One post on the victim’s Facebook said they would 'ride back down' on the shooter and his friends," the paper reports.

The suspect was ordered held until his next hearing by a juvenile court on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

Have to disagree with you, I grew up in the Humboldt Park area. I remember when my friend was killed when he was shot in the head in 88, he was 15 & the shooter was 16. This has been going on in Chicago for a very long time. Nothing new here.

Folks, know this will upset many, but how long are we going to continue 'enabling' adults to permit criminals being raised without ANY ADULT SUPERVISION? At what point will we merely stop welfare payments?? -- and yes -- we are assuming that this is the compensation of probably a SINGLE PARENT!

Who makes up the MAJORITY of people living in the inner city ghettos? Answer: people of color. Who makes up the MINORITY of people living in inner city ghettos? Answer: Caucasians. Who holds the MOST OFFICES that RUN this country? Answer: Caucasians. Who holds the LEAST OFFICES that RUN this country? Answer: people of color. This is REALITY folks!!! Being that I was raised by a single mom, I applaud you. That's whats wrong with us we automatically want to make things into a black/white, rich/poor thing. Sorry guys but there are evil people in this world, regardless of age. Here in Florida a group of 15-18 yr olds murdered a 15 yr old boy. Shot him multiple times, broken kneecaps, then burned the kid & put his remains in some 5 gal paint cans. Also lets not forget Columbine, those kids were not poor & if I remember correct they had both parents. F&F'd #5
