Sarah Burton: Kate Middleton's Wedding Reception Dress Designer, Too (PHOTOS, POLL)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 04/29/2011 5:21 pm   Updated: 06/29/2011 5:12 am

Kate Middleton, er, Duchess Catherine stepped out in a second outfit for the royal wedding reception at Buckingham Palace on Friday night.

She donned a strapless, white gown with diamante embellishment at the waist and a cropped angora sweater, all by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, according to the AFP. Burton also designed Kate's wedding dress earlier in the day, which you can admire here.

Prince William and Prince Charles ditched their uniforms for dinner jackets. And Camilla donned a creation by Anna Valentine.

Take a look and tell us what you think.

I didn't care for the first dress, and this one is okay. I guess I expected her to wear something more modern and form fitting (not mermaid though) for both the ceremony and reception. And I didn't like the eyeliner under the eye look, it seems so 80s to me. But whatev, it was still a lovely ceremony regardless. :)

Lovely and still very bridal, but it looks comfortable and fun to dance it for 'their' reception. A fashion-perfect day for Kate!

What is Camilla wearing? A robe? Seriously, she couldn't do any better than that?

And I thought the first one was perfection... The "Evening" gown was outstanding, simply gorgeous. The perfect Bride.

This is great and everything, but with so many resources at hand and so many people to consult, would you expect anything less? No one would let her mess up.

Princess Diana's wedding gown was far superior and suited for a princess. Princess Kate's wedding dress was rather BORING (borderline dreadful). I expected something more befitting a princess of the 21st century instead we got an old remake of Princess Grace's dress. Her sister Pippa quite possibly stole the show on her big day, so unfortunate...
p.s. on a positive note, although the dress was a total disappointment, Princess Kate, on the other hand, was physically very beautiful.

Just saw Pippa's dress: much better...stylish, sophisticated, sexy...more like what Kate should have chosen. I love Sarah Burton's designs, but obviously she wasn't involved much in the design of Kate's dresses...looks like Sarah took orders and was treated like a seamstress. She have to work to recover her reputation. Too bad, I would have loved to have seen what Sarah could have done for this wedding. Methinks Kate is a little bit of a know it all.

I agree that Pippa's dress was very stylish however not appropriate for a royal princess. Too tight figure hugging and the clevage at the front is definitely not acceptable for someone in Kate's position.

Kate's dress was appropriate and fitting for her role as future queen. She understands the demands of her position and know that a dress like Pippa's whilst fitting in the eyes of her peers, is definitely something the queen wouldn't have approved of. Her selection was a balance between old and knew, a classic timeless piece and very cleverly selected and designed.

Kate is styled like a girl of 16....way to young and unsophisticated for her age...plus the fuzzy sweater must go. I don't blame Camilla for wearing a caftan. Comfort rules.

I've been in England in April... that sweater was VERY necessary! I was astounded that she road in an open carriage during the day wearing on her shoulders and arms but a bit of lace. She did her duty during the day, allowing everyone to see her wedding dress, both in the carriage and on the balcony. So if she wanted to wear a bit of sweater in the evening, I'm all for it!

Whoever said she did her own makeup, do not believe it. Makeup for film and photo has to be done a certain way and while she could do it, its tough to put on a pair of eyelashes yourself.

She may have done it and then someone went over it again and/or touched it up so that they could make it look like how she does it while making it suitable for video. If I were her I'd want it as close to my normal look as possible. It looks a little too heavy in the close ups but of course that's because it's camera makeup rather than normal makeup.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that she had a make-up artist show her what to do for the big day, but that Kate was the one who actually did her make-up the day of.

Pic 4 shows how unpro the make-up job is. She looked great but could have looked spectacular with pro make-up.

If one has the skill , one should . Make up artists that really do not know whom the person is often make up people in a style that is not the real person . Many have egos and want their art out there . . If one is good at doing their own make up or getting a little help with liners . one should
