Shell is a British company. Don't buy gas or any kind of fuel thats not American produced. Besides, American fuel costs less.

It is time to start ramping up second generation biofuel production.

Fuel made from algae, cellulose and waste are the future.

Bring on the electric, flex-fuel and hybrid vehicles. 40 MPG is better than 20 MPG.

With 3.8 liters to a gallon you're paying about $5.77 per gallon. Granted still high, but you have to consider taxes on top of the price per liter. Don't know about Ireland, but in the UK and France the taxes can be as much as 70%

Do you drive as much as the fellow in the states that has no choice but to drive 2 hours a day for work-everyday? Then has to choose whether to fill his tank or buy food for his kids?
10:10 PM on 05/05/2011
I would have never put my self in the position to have to drive two hours one way to work. Sounds like its time to move or get work closer to home.

We just have to convince the oil corPirates to switch their money making schemes over to the green side. Otherwise, it won't stop until all the oil is gone.

When all the oil is gone, everything will stop!

Maybe we should use public transportation -- oh I forgot we have no reliable public transportation systems outside of major cities.

I hope they start putting bicycle lanes on the interstate highways. We may need to use them soon.

Maybe the Republican controlled house of Representatives can end the tax break for driving SUV's?

REVIVE 55
When you think of it, drive near 55 mph. Doesn’t have to be every hour of every day; just do it when you can. Sometimes is better than never; often is better still.
It’s not THE solution, but it is one thing we can do starting now.
When U.S. speed limits were dropped to 55, gas consumption fell. Reducing the money we hand over to oil companies is about the only thing we can do. No complaint to elected officials, no article, no lawsuit, no public protest – none of the approved approaches has the slightest effect on Big Oil.
But if we drive near 55 mph, they get less of our money. Not much less, but less. Less of our money going to Big Oil’s record, tax-free profits is better for us.
So my thought for today is ‘Revive 55!’
Yer welcome.

Just think we even have a minimum Mark-up Law in Wisconsin so those poor gas station guys can make more $ and eliminate competition. What do you think about that.

If you want to keep local jobs in America, the quickest way would seem to be through painfully high transportation costs. As fuel becomes more expensive, it will encourage more local production and shorter shipping routes.

But I could be wrong. I frequently am.

No, you're correct. My employer has benefited from high energy costs as shipping container costs have soared over the past few years.

Thank you, President Obama for doing NOTHING about the rising prices of gasoline. Why am I not surprised?

Well maybe if you fake conservatives would give the poor guy a chance to build high speed rail and improve transportation infrastructure we wouldn't be as hard hit now would we? How about instead of complaining (baselessly, at that) about how high speed rail is too "European" (whatever that means) you get behind something so sensible as that?
11:39 AM on 04/30/2011
You mean like this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/30/tax-breaks-oil_n_855844.html

You are surprised because you don't know how it works.

Only the Congress (Senate or House) can introduce a bill or resolution.

A president cannot:

Make Laws
Decide how federal money will be spent

You need to be asking the Congress this question. Start with the representative from your state for the House of Representative. Here is the page to look them up.

You should investigate the "regulatory" path and what gets done by subverting the legislature.

“Speculators are an easy bad guy, says Michael Greenstone, an energy economist at MIT. “They’re a malevolent other. They’re thought to produce nothing of value, and so blaming them has a long and rich history.” But it’s worth understanding what exactly you’re saying is happening when you place the blame on speculators.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/if-only-speculation-explained-gas-prices/2011/04/27/AF70yqFF_blog.html

For those who care not read the quote nor the article: Speculation is a convenient scapegoat for people who can’t be bothered to look seriously at the numbers.
