White House Correspondents' Dinner 2011: Who Was Best-Dressed? (PHOTOS, POLL)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 05/01/2011 12:47 am   Updated: 06/30/2011 5:12 am

A handful of famous faces ditched Hollywood for the Washington Hilton on Saturday night as they did the step-and-smile on the red carpet at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. (Read about the event -- and the zings -- here.)

Of note: Scarlett Johansson's new red 'do, Mila Kunis' strapless column dress and Rashida Jones in royal blue. Of course, there were a few misses...well, we won't name names. But showing off the sides of your assets or donning shoulder slits and a short skirt probably fall under the no-no column at this type of event. Just sayin'.

Take a look and tell us who was best-dressed. And to see what Michelle Obama wore, click here.

So tell me.  What is the concept behind the celebrity invites to this function?

why would it be a joke "NOW" when the members have always invited celebrities? this is nothing new.
01:28 PM on 05/03/2011
The White House Correspondant's Association hosts the event- the President, Vice, etc. are not members, so they don't choose the guest list. However, the 'Hollywood-ization' of the guest list where more and more celebrities were included began in the Reagan era and has grown more so with each successive administration. Entertainers have always been part of the event, particularly a comic 'roast' of the President and the President himself traditionally doing a comedy routine for the press. Many people say the entire event only shows how close the various press corps have gotten to the White House over the years and that it is an 'insiders club' now- but none of this is anything new with the Obama administration. They've been holding the dinner since 1920.

Thank you ReesieKitty for the excellent history of the dinner.  I certainly wasn't thinking that the celebritization (sp?) of the even had anything to do with President Obama's administration as I've noticed celebrity guests for years now.  YOur explanation of how the invites work is very helpful!

What kind of impression was Crissy Tiegen trying to make in that non dress? That all of her boobs would flop out in front of some rich guy, and that she could make a buck? Disgusting!

Thank you! I'm not a prude in any way, but she seemed to be dressed very inappropriately.

Yeah, that dress was really nasty -- and it wasn't doing her any favors, figure-wise, either. Fail.

Rashida Jones, Mila Kunis and Anna Paquin are my favorites. And I think Jon Hamm's girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt looked good too.

Sorry, but bristle's way to lumpy and chunky to pull off a short skirt. Notice how the rest of the "dress" hides her shapelessness? Or..... maybe she's preggers again?
