Hillary Clinton: Osama Bin Laden Death Doesn't End War On Terror (VIDEO)

Hillary Clinton Osama Bin Laden Dead

AP/The Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/02/11 11:09 AM ET Updated: 07/02/11 06:12 AM ET

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden is not the end of the war on terrorism and warned the network's members that the United States would be relentless in its pursuit of them.

Clinton said bin Laden's death at the hands of U.S. forces in Pakistan nearly a decade after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks proved the United States was committed to tracking down the perpetrators of extremist violence and bringing them to justice.

"Even as we mark this milestone, we should not forget that the battle to stop al-Qaida and its syndicate of terror will not end with the death of bin Laden," she said.

Turning to deliver a direct message to bin Laden's followers, she vowed: "You cannot wait us out. You cannot defeat us but you can make the choice to abandon al-Qaida and participate in a peaceful political process."

Clinton's message comes as the U.S. and its partners in Afghanistan are trying to convince Taliban militants to renounce ties with al-Qaida and join Afghan society as part of Afghan President Hamid Karzai's reconciliation program.

She said the U.S. would continue to boost counterterrorism cooperation with other nations, including Pakistan.

Clinton also said the U.S. was committed to supporting the people and government of Pakistan and defending their people and democracy from violent extremism. She said that bin Laden had also declared war on Pakistan and had ordered the killing of Pakistani men, women and children.

Clinton said that history would record that bin Laden's death had come at a time when people in the Middle East and North Africa were rejecting the "extremist narrative" and were standing up for freedom and democracy. She said there was "no better rebuke to al-Qaida and its heinous ideology."

Shortly after President Barack Obama announced bin Laden's death, the State Department issued a worldwide travel alert, warning U.S. citizens traveling or living overseas of the heightened risk of anti-American violence in the wake of the operation.

It did not specify individual countries of concern, but on Monday the U.S. embassy in Islamabad, as well as the U.S. consulates in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar were closed for all but emergency services.

The embassy in Islamabad released a notice advising Americans "of the possibility of violent protests and demonstrations in major cities of Pakistan," specifically near the U.S diplomatic missions. "Spontaneous protests in reaction to the recent events could erupt at any time at locations perceived as Western, including restaurants and areas where foreigners are known to congregate and may turn violent," it said.

Have not seen alot of speech by HC. Wow!! she had a facelift or did something to her face!! her face is smoother/fuller and I do not see any bags under the eye. You look great HC!!

I was wondering about your hairstyle - it meant to open the face more which is good - You were holding your face in a recent photo - hope it is not hurting.

Again You look great!!.or it could be those reflective makeup- where it is flawless!!. I noticed the change in her face so face!!. (it was the lower eyelids and she fixed it) good job!.

Here is a video for comparison.

good gawd, hill, that hairstyle is hideous---are you trying to look like the typical 35-yr-old local newsreader babe?--maybe your stylist should be the next on the most wanted list...

Come on Markie. Grow up. She is doing the best she can with what nature has bestowed. There's nothing wrong with the way she looks.

actually, richard---my point is that she is absolutely not doing the best w/ nature blah-blah-woof-woof

her current hairstyle is too young for a 40-yr old---it makes her look old, dowdy, and almost fundamentalist

---compare that pic w/ the pics of her during the '08 campaign---the perfect hairstyle for a woman of her uhhh.....maturity

The objective to this 'war' is kept ambiguous, probably because the results ultimately must not be in our best interests...

Can someone please tell me what 'winning the war on terror' would look like? I think the American taxpayer deserves to know what the endgame is and stop being lectured to...
03:45 PM on 05/03/2011
There is no winning the war on terror. You can call it war but its not. There are no uniformed armys to engage and either beat them or loose yourself. This is simply a bunch of anti Americans - anti Infidels who hide in compounds or mosques and send out kids to blow up other kids. You can not win until you convince those countries who sponsor such atrocities that they must eliminate all such people themselves. I have not seen any activities that suggest Muslims are attempting to stop Muslims from such killings.

But if we dont do all we can to determine if and when such attacks are coming you will be crying serious tears over many many American lives lost to these terrorists killers.

It you don't declare victory now, the war never ends.  It is time to declare victory and come home.  We don't need to occupy Afghanistan and Iraq to fight terrorism at home.
11:00 PM on 05/02/2011
Exactly. We have got to get out of Afghanistan, and this is the golden opportunity. Obama can say he did what he promised in 2007, 1) get OBL, if he had the right intel, and 2) get our troops home. But Clinton assures us that there will soon be a new bogeyman to fight. It will doubtless require our troops to secure more wealth for the banksters.

"The news of Osama bin Laden’s death is a sideshow – an irrelevant piece of information intended to keep the American populace distracted. " Read these words again America because most of the people in this nation believe this news is no more then Distraction served up on another dinner plate. The government has lied at every turn including this one. Will this news end the wars that never should have started, the wars that began from lies told by the former President and his VP? I think not. The real terrorists are not living overseas, the weapons of mass destruction are not overseas and the war are terror is more BS than reality... crap invented to create havoc, panic and chaos among the uneducated and mostly uninformed masses.
Hillary is correct, this won't end the war on terror, because the war on terror is a fictitious war and until you can stop the liars you won't be able to stop the lies... and so far this war has been mostly the doing of liars.
Sorry but this story is just another page in the book of lies that needs to, and will come to an end.
The comments of the people reflect the level of disbelief and disapproval. Rome is burning!

Thank you for this desperately needed breath of fresh air to a suffocating nation.

No point watching or reading the news for the next four or five days. There will be nothing on offer except details of this assassination raid.

Meanwhile, the raid was probably timed to distract attention from yet another regulatory agency or committee or central bank giving the green light to yet another sneak attack on the middle class and the environment.

Osama Bin Laden is dead, but millions of Americans are still unemployed and in some states a huge majority of house are still worth less than their mortgages.

Oil companies and banks are still setting records with their hundreds of billions in profits and their zero's in federal corporate taxes.

Timothy Geithner is still the Secretary of the Treasury. Jeffrey Immelt is still the Secretary of Labor. Ben Bernanke is still the head of the Federal Reserve.

CEOs are still setting records with undeserved bonuses.

Rush Limbaugh is still telling lies and spreading hate.

Who really poses the greatest threat to your life and your future? "Al Qaeda" (whatever or whoever that is) or the richest 0.1% who own and rule the United Corporations of America?

Of course it doesn't, the welfare gravy train must continue to the military industrial complex. All hail defense contractors! All hail spending money on bombs we don't need rather than bridges we do!

Did she say "War on Terror"?
A pox on her. this war is done and over - there will never be a better time to declare victory and leave with pride.

You people live on another planet if you believe the war against terrorists is or ever will be over. Even if every Muslim Country was bombed off the face of the earth, you wouldnt be able to say it was over. When the WTC was killed, the world changed forever and there will be killing and attempts at killing forever in the name of holy wars against all Infidels. You are free and safe to write such nonsense so far only because of the efforts of those you despise so much. the Military and intell people who spend every waking moment in attempts to keep you safe from jihadist extremists who want to kill you because you are not a Muslim. and all you do is whine. Grow up and do something to help eliminate this never ending threat.

I listened to a pundit last night on MSNBC that thought this would normalize relations between Muslims and the West.

Sounds right.  Normalize - to conform to a norm or standard.   What are normal relations between Muslims and the West?  War since the Crusades.   So, yes, I expect this will normalize relations.

As long as the United States remains the worlds police force, maintains bases throughout the world and involves ourselves in the internal politics of other countries, we will always remain a target for terror. However, this certainly is a logical reason to leave Afghanistan which is a war we can never win.

Nothing will ever end the "War On (Fill in the blank)".

What would be nice would be that this SEAL success would end the use of mercenaries. Legitimate Military got the job done, not "contractors".

Time to cut Blackwater loose.
