'Green Lantern' Final Trailer Revealed (VIDEO)

Ryan Reynolds

The universe is counting on Ryan Reynolds. So is Warner Brothers.

The studio released a final, epic trailer for its big screen comic book adaptation, "Green Lantern," a big budget, CGI romp through colliding worlds and space. Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, a pilot who is chosen by a mythical green ring to wield the mighty powers needed to save the universe from evil.

Joining him is a computer-enhanced team known as the Green Lantern Corps., as well as a love interest played by Blake Lively. Warner Bros. has a lot riding on the film, recently adding $9 million to its special effects budget; the movie had already cost over $150 million to produce.

Reynolds, working to lock down true leading man status with the film, has a lot riding on it, too, and he set the bar high with the comparisons he made for his character, which had to straddle both charming and serious.

"The character is somewhere in the middle," he told the Los Angeles Times. "He's a classic male. Han Solo, who was witty but not really funny, was one of the touchstones...

"It's about courage versus fearlessness and the power of willpower and the need for sacrifice and service. This is not a comedy film but like Han Solo or an Indiana Jones, there are moments where you smile and the hero can trades lines with anybody."

The film hits theaters on June 17th.

Love Reynolds in two guys and a girl. Reynolds and Nathan Fillion were hilarious. I can remember being pumped when he was cast as deadpool. Then wolverine came out and not only did they destroy the character but the entire movi was an epic fail. Then there was talk of a Deadpool movie and I got excited again. Now this?!?! Green Lantern? Really? There is a reason people stopped reading that comic 20 years ago. Because he's lame. Who are these people who decide which comics to turn into movies? Stop picking characters that were popular 20 years ago! They should make an awesome Deadpool movie that's insanely violent for $50 million. Do it the right way and make double that just in the US alone. Although I suppose the same can be said for Captain America. Lame character but the preview for that movie looks awesome right now. I just hope this doesn't stall out Reynolds career.

They could cast Ryan Reynolds in the part of God, and spend 500 million dollars on CGI, SFX and and triple 3-D...and he'd still be Ryan Reynolds, lightweight canadian rom/com actor.

I think only recently in the comics (last 12 years) prior to that he was a white guy.

There's been a dark-haired white guy (classic version), a black guy, another dark-haired white guy, a red-haired jerk, a dog, and various aliens.

There must be thousands of Ryan Reynolds images available to be used. I wonder if HP selected this one because it is in fact a product placement that we are being subjected to.

Don't know whether I'll see it, but I am SUCH a geek that I've had a GL power ring for about 15 years now. I also have a Legion Flight Ring and a Flash ring. And yes I wear them. When someone can recognize (especially) my Flash ring, then I know I'm with a fellow dweeb.

Looks great, but I still don't think Reynolds was right for this. He'll make a great Deadpool though.

I think it's going to bomb. Reynold's is miscast.

who knows, it looks as good as it could, but he will also do a character movie as a character called Deadpool (an x man), did it a little in Wolverine origins and he did a Blade super hero movie.. so he's been prepped for this
