Osama Bin Laden Dead: Man Who Hunted Him After 9/11 Reacts

Osama Bin Laden Dead

The New Republic:

If you are in your mid-teens or older, you most likely recall exactly where you were when the hijacked airliners struck the World Trade Center in New York City, pierced the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., and nose-dived into a quiet field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The images of that horrific day can be suppressed, but they can't be deleted. Now, if you are old enough to read this, you'll certainly never forget images of a stoic President Obama announcing the violent death of Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind September 11 and the world's most wanted man, by a small group of our nation's most elite special operators and intelligence professionals.

Because of the failure of GWB to even KNOW that Bin Laden was in plain sight,

we are mired in Afghanistan AND Iraq (his war of CHOICE).

May he and Cheeney BURN with Bin Luden....

I am perplexed by the sentimnt of our diverse nation. One one hand we have used skill, and cunning field warriors that are trained for these types of missions, to bring to justice OBL. On the other hand we have liberal groups shouting for the rights of someone that played a part in annihilating the rights of nearly 3000 people in an act of terrorism on 9/11.Where is the balance in thinking that in times of extreme need, that extreme measures aren't needed to bring about justice?

Not so Fast!

The president of the United States,
without the consent, without notice,
without respect for the constitution or sovereignty of a foreign country,
without a declaration of war,
without UN coalition or NATO forces
invades, in a military action, an allied country
in the dead of night.

He invades their airspace,
breaks and enters by force a private residence,
without a warrant or writs of extradition,
and kills an unarmed man,
who was not mirandized,
appointed an attorney,
given one phone call, or given a trial... in his own home.

An unconvicted man,
who was not given a civil New York City trial
or the benefit of a military tribunal,
A man who was totally deprived of all civil rights
and all the protections afforded by American values and judicial system.
A man whose life and liberty was taken without a hearing.

The project so greivouslyand inappropriately, code named "geronimo"
is an embarrassment to all liberals, and socially consciense democrats.
This is cowboy diplomacy carried out to its worst possible end.
Is that something Democrats should proud of? It's a sad day.

Where's the vitriolic dissent? Why arent you calling this president a war criminal?

Why arent you asking to have him impeached?

Where's the ACLU.? Where's the liberal Outrage?

Terrorists have chosen lives outside of civilized society and therefore forfeit their civil rights.....what about the innocent human beings whose lives were lost at the hands of these human pieces of crap.....what about their rights? I don't remember the terrorists getting permission or approval to kill. Bin Laden was fortunate to die instantly.......I would've captured him and tortured him until he disclosed valuable info. You want to defend Bin Laden? Get some help. You're sick.

What too much honesty for you? Why not just shoot KSM? and other accused Terrorists? Granted We believe he was a bad guy, but this is something We fought George Bush and Dick Cheney for doing. Now We are beating our breasts over this. We are taking credit for continuing the barbaric policies of the prior regime. We are democrats. We give people trials in civilian courts! We provide attorneys! We've spent 6 years criticizing Republicans for this behaviour.

Very Strong. This is pretext to a manufactured terrorist "retaliation" event to justify new or expanded targets. The obvious media exploitation and reminders of grieving 911 victims, causal to a scape goat's killing, is particularly offensive.

We are out Republican the Republicans!
10:53 AM on 05/05/2011
What are we doing? Isn't this the standards we are holding Republicans to?
If so, We must stand by them. Or should we just exploit these things for other purposes?

I don't understand the flexibility of morality here.
We are More Republican than the Republicans!

Remember Gary Brooks? The construction worker who was wandering around Pakistan searching

for OBL? He may have been closer than anyone knew!

The issue of "torture" -- or "enhanced interrogation" or whatever label you want to use for "waterboarding" and other kinds of physically and life threatening interrogations -- is at the core about its effectiveness. It is "justified" by those supportive of it based on the notion that given substantial "time constraints" it is the most effective method of extracting information that can save thousands of American lives.

IF it is effective, I can understand the argument for it. However, I do not have enough information to draw that conclusion. I only hope that those who possess that information are acting in our best interest when they draw their conclusions.

The other issue relative to these techniques is whether they create a more strongly motivated opposition as a result of their use. While I can certainly imagine those interrogated in this fashion being highly motivated to retaliate -- whether it is increasing the motivation to attack and kill thousands of Americans or it is simply concretizing that which already existed is difficult to know with any level of certainty.

Again, those responsible for these decisions need to be honest brokers relative to ALL of the information available.
