I was surprised to not see MapQuest for iOS not listed here. It's a map app with talking directions and is free.

Why do you need an app to go traveling? Buy a phrase book before you leave and read it on the trip, buy a cheap map when you get where you are going. Then hit the streets and discover the place for yourself
