Cheap Trick 'Surrender' Mariachi Mash Up (VIDEO)

WATCH: Cheap Trick's Cinco De Mayo Surprise

Cheap Trick have unearthed their first hit single “Surrender” more than thirty years after it climbed up the charts, only this time it has been revived as a Mariachi mash up and it arrives just in time for Cinco de Mayo. When Hornitos™ Tequila announced their Mariachi Mash Up competition, they encouraged up-and-coming bands to mash up one of five hit songs listed on their website, incorporating traditional Mariachi elements into a video submission. It’s doubtful they expected one of the actual bands to revisit their own song. The mariachi flavor actually suits the song surprisingly well. Good luck to the other bands that trying to compete with this. They may as well….surrender.

The original 1978 version was a hard rocking teen anthem that name-checked Kiss records and appeared in high-school epics like Fast Times At Ridgemont High and Detroit Rock City. The reworked version opens up with the same classic riff played by band members Rob Zander, Rick Nielsen, and Tom Petersson (drummer Bun E. Carlos no longer plays with the band live) while a traditional mariachi band stands conspicuously in the background. When the verse hits, the band breaks down into full on mariachi-mode, adding guitarróns, trumpets and even some Spanish lyrics: "Mom esta bien, pop esta bien.." Hard not to love.

Check out the video below. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
