'Vampire Diaries' Finale: Nina Dobrev Says 'People Will Die'

NEW YORK — "Vampire Diaries" fans note: Nina Dobrev warns of a "gut-wrenching" season finale in which "people will die." Dobrev is not giving hints about who will go but predicts that "there will be a lot of tears" among the cast, crew and viewers of the CW hit.

The actress, who says the cast knows little more than the audience about writers' plans, says she was as surprised as anyone the key plotline involving a "sun and moon curse" turned out to be a ruse for character Klaus, who is scheming to become a vampire/werewolf hybrid.

"Trust me, when I read that script and looked at those pages and saw that everything that they've all been doing for the last two seasons really has been all made up and a big joke; broke my heart," she said.

Dobrev thinks it was a clever move to make Klaus appear more diabolical.

"It makes Klaus that much smarter and that much more clever and ahead of the game," she said. "It's like a puppet show and he's orchestrating the whole thing."

The actress also reveals that the cast has come up with their own, unofficial name for the hybrid: a "wampire."

Dobrev co-stars with Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, who play vampire brothers obsessed with her two characters on the show: the sweet human Elena and the evil vampire ancestor Katherine.

Because Elena and Katherine are both identified as doppelgangers, Dobrev says "it's assumed" she will eventually have to take on another role as their original. She acknowledges, however, that she has "no idea" if that will happen.

"I didn't even know that I'd be playing Katherine when I signed on the project," she said. "It just popped up in the script one day and now there's mumbling about this third character because of the whole doppelganger thing."

The "Vampire Diaries" finale airs on the CW network on May 12 at 8 p.m. EDT.

Just make sure they keep Tyler around, gotta have more than just vampires and witches lol need a lycan to keep them honest. I thought this show was going to be really stupid but then I watched it and it was actually pretty entertaining. I'm a big true blood fan and have always liked vampire/werewolf stories so I'm probably more inclined to like this thing anyway but they do a pretty good job with both the writing and the acting. They can't go too crazy killing people off though, that is one of the things that broght down heroes.

Vampire Diaries is my guilty CW pleasure, I admit. I really enjoy the show, in spite of the fact that I think Paul Wesley seems to have limited emotional range - Ian Somerhalder is a better actor in this regard. I also think Nina's portrayal of Katherine is better than her Elena. Of course, maybe my preference for in both of those cases is a testament to my dark side.

Paul may be too subtle for you, there is nothing limited about him. He can play heartbreak, romance, anger, sarcasm, flirtation, etc. Anything thrown at him. He has a more sober demeanor than his brother, that is the way it is supposed to be, not Paul doing anything wrong. If you gravitate more toward Damon because he`s more `fun`, fine, but it is not a failing of Paul the actor.

I agree with you Ugonna, I am far from disliking Ian Somerhalder and his character, but I adore Stefan (and therefore Paul Wesley.)
This show shouldn't be good, it's got all the trappings of an awful teen drama, and yet! It is soooo fantastic!

I'm kinda glad they are, otherwise I'd be bored since I've read the Vampire Diaries book series. Knowing what's going to happen every week would be a bit tedious. That's also why I was happy that the Being Human (USA) writers didn't completely Xerox the UK original.
