Renowned historian Doris Kearns Goodwin named her best selling volume on the Lincoln Presidency, "Team of Rivals," after the incredible group of advisers that the 16th President put together and relied on to win the Civil War. As Steven Spielberg assembles his cast for his upcoming Lincoln movie -- which will be based on Kearns Goodwin's book -- one might call his group the "Team of Awesome."
With Daniel Day Lewis already signed on to play President Lincoln and Sally Field his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, Spielberg is close to adding Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tommy Lee Jones, among others, to the cast.
The Hollywood Reporter relays that Gordon-Levitt would play Robert Todd Lincoln, the President's oldest son, while Jones's role would be that of Thaddeus Stevens, an abolitionist Congressman from Pennsylvania.
In addition, John Hawkes, as well as Hal Holbrooke and James Spader, are in talks to join the film, though their roles have not been released.
For Gordon-Levitt, the film would mark another genre in his well-curated career. After having starred in last year's hit "Inception," he'll take the lead in the upcoming indie drama "Hesher," with Natalie Portman, before taking a prominent supporting role in Christopher Nolan's final Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises."
