Paul McCartney, Nancy Shevell Engaged

LONDON -- Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney is engaged to girlfriend Nancy Shevell, his publicist said Friday.

McCartney, 68, started dating the 51-year-old New York socialite and businesswoman nearly four years ago following his bitter split from second wife Heather Mills.

McCartney publicist Stuart Bell confirmed recent media speculation over a proposal as true, but declined to give further details on when and how the former Beatle asked Shevell to marry him, saying only "we're all thrilled for him."

The marriage will be McCartney's third; his first wife, Linda, died of cancer in 1998. His 2002 marriage to Mills ended in divorce in 2008.

Shevell was married for more than 20 years to attorney Bruce Blakeman, a close friend of former New York Gov. George Pataki, who appointed her to the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

She also is the vice president for administration of New England Motor Freight Inc., a New Jersey-based trucking company owned by her father.

McCartney and Shevell were first spotted together in Long Island's Hamptons area in late 2007.

Since then, Shevell has become a red-carpet staple, appearing at the March 23 premiere of "The Boat That Rocked" in London, fashion shows by McCartney's daughter Stella, the Grammys and McCartney's concerts around the world.

His mother died when he was 14 and it was heartbreaking way to go - an embolism after a mastectomy operation to stop the spread of breast cancer so I think that he looks for security in marriage and perhaps someone to look after him. He had good luck with his first American lady so maybe the third time will be the charm.

So much misinformation. Fact: Paul is worth about $800 million. In the divorce settlement, Heather got $48 million (about $20 mill in cash and the rest in property). That's about 5 or 6 percent of Paul's net worth.

One of the British papers is reporting that there will be no pre-nup, only a document saying Shevell will make no claims on Paul's children's trust funds.

I've always thought this woman was fixated on becoming Lady McCartney, and would do anything to make that happen. It's not about the money because she has her own, and that may be all he cares about. For her, it's all about the title, the fame, hanging with celebrities and powerful people. Paul is so afraid of being alone that he is again allowing himself to be taken in by a calculating social climber.

He may be a talented musician, but he sure isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

And you know all of this how? All this cynical arm-chair psychoanalysis is just hot air. You don't know him. You don't know her.

All we can judge from is the photos. And they show Nancy and Paul spend most of their time together -- ALONE. Maybe once every 2 or 3 months they go to some big event like the Met Ball. Twice a year they go to Stella's Paris fashion showns. But Paul doesn't "hang with celebrities." He hangs with Nancy. They go on vacations together -- alone. They've been photographed repeatedly on beaches and at restaurants and biking and shopping -- alone. Just the two of them. So you're suggesting she's spending hours and hours alone with him for the past FOUR years because, once every two or three months, she likes to put on a nice dress and go to some celebrity event? Right.

I also wondered where this person gathers such 'facts and analysis'. Where the vitriol comes from.

Seems she was a new Huffer so thought I'd take a quick read of her history. In fact she's been registered on this site nearly 4 years!...somehow not making many friends.
With many past comments knocking McCartney, Stella, Nancy and that old group too. In 2009, she describes Nancy...This one is snobby, obsessed with her looks, and likes to hang with "VIP's."

She also whines about other posters having 'over-the-top worship' of Paul and complains that the 2009 Beatles remastered releases should have been 'remixed'?

And, politics of course, she was upset that Paul made some fun of our past President when at the White House. She knocks Olbermann, Letterman, Obama....mean spiritedness for almost everyone...likes Madonna though.

A guess (only a wild guess).
This party perceives she was once jilted/dissed/slighted by Paul. Perhaps her own attempt to socialize with him at some VIP party was ignored? So maybe feel sorry for her (not).
