U.S. Wants Access To Osama Bin Laden's Wives Being Held By Pakistan

Osama Bin Laden Wives Pakistan

By CHRIS BRUMMITT   05/ 8/11 01:58 PM ET   AP

ISLAMABAD -- The United States wants access to three widows of Osama bin Laden being held by Pakistani authorities, something that could help answer questions about whether any officials knew the al-Qaida chief was living in the country, a top American official said.

Pakistan authorities were not immediately available for comment Sunday on the demand, which could be a fresh sticking point between the two countries. U.S.-Pakistani relations were frayed before the unilateral U.S. raid, and appear to have worsened since.

Information from the three women left behind in the house after American commandos killed bin Laden could also reveal the day-to-day life of bin Laden, what he has done since the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and the workings of al-Qaida. Several children were also taken into custody, some or all of them believed to be bin Laden's.

The al-Qaida chief was found in a large house close to a military academy in the army town of Abbottabad, where he had been living for up to six years. His location raised suspicions that some Pakistani authorities, possibly elements of the powerful army and intelligence services, could have been colluding with him.

U.S. National Security Adviser Tom Donilon told NBC's "Meet the Press" that Washington had seen no evidence that the government was colluding with bin Laden. But he said that Pakistani authorities "need to provide us with intelligence, by the way, from the compound that they've gathered, including access to Osama bin Laden's three wives."

Donilon also said Pakistani authorities had collected other evidence from the house which the United States wanted to "work with them on assessing." The commandos seized a large and valuable intelligence haul that included videos, telephone numbers and documents, according to U.S. officials.

The Pakistani government has strongly denied it knew of bin Laden's whereabouts, but Western governments have long regarded Islamabad with suspicion. Its armed forces have historical – some would say ongoing – links with Islamist militants, whom they used as proxies in Afghanistan and India.

The American commandos killed bin Laden and up to four other people, including one of his sons, at the compound on April 29.

They took the body of bin Laden and quickly buried it at sea.

At least three women, identified by Pakistan and U.S. officials as bin Laden's wives, and several children were left behind at the compound. Pakistani officials have given little information, some of it conflicting, about the identities of the women and children, their numbers and what they allegedly have been saying.

Late Sunday, two loud blasts were heard in Abbottabad, but the source of the explosions was not immediately clear. The compound where bin Laden was found appeared undamaged.

I'm sure his wives were to be seen and not heard, but I'm sure they heard a lot and know a lot.

Wouldn't gripe about having access to a couple of them myself. Mine run off to Afganastan or however the heck it's spelled. Government workers get all the good deals.

President says intelligence was 55/45, man inside compound could have been "prince from Dubai"; Abbottabad resident tells BBC man seen watching television in video released by White House was his neighbor, not Osama.

Darn! Can't even get a simple video straight.

While we are opposed to censorship of any kind exclusive of on going military actions in the defense of our nation we think the too early public disclosure that the death of Osama bin Laden left at least three wives in the compound to fall into the hands of Pakistanis should have been delayed! This disclosure just puts the wives not only in danger but also more likely to be imprisoned for long durations! Applauding the action of Presidnt Obama does not lessen our position that the Obama administration should be more discreet before their flapping lips sinks

Obama is more interested in using this to improve his slumping ratings and build political capital for his re election than anything else.

The war on terror is now over. We can now bring home our troops and let the seeds of democracy set in on their own. With the end of Osama bin Laden so goes the era of terror with him. He was a broken man that told his children not to follow in his foot steps that Jihad was not for them lets hope he was right. Strange how a man prepares for the end of his life right before it happens. The new awakening the new era of thinking is not too far off lets hope.

What on earth would an old geezer like Bin laden want with three young wives? I am about his age and let me tell you I have one wife and she is ten years younger than me and horney as a goat and I can barely handel her--- how can he take care of three ??? Maby one of his sons was helping him out when he wasen't lookin. And how did they all get along? If I brought another wife or girlfriend home I would get the Bobbitt treatment or be full of .44 caliber holes or both. I reckon most American women woulden't go for it either -- just a guess but you can try it and let me know how it works out.

Be thankful you have a women who knows her place in life and that is good in the sack.
So many women are a waist of time in the sack...

Four of the widows were camels--scratch them off the list. The cooperation of the human wives will depend upon the level of intimacy they shared with the evil butcher. Was he a stud or a dud in the rack?

They had the perfect opportunity to take one with them ... She was right there with OBL trying to shield him from the lead posioning.

Better be careful, the Pakistanis already "warned" us not to engage in any more surprise raids, they puffed up their chests and pretended righteous indignation. This after they had provided Bin Laden with safe haven for years, all the while taking billions of dollars of our money and laughing at us behind our backs. I say it's time we did more than "warn" them. I say we sanction them. No more aid, and no more exports from Pakistan. With "friends" like that, who needs enemies?
