More yoga studios are popping up all over New York that offer cheap or by-donation classes, a practice that seems to be more in keeping with the philosophy of yoga itself. Here are 5 places to do your downward dog without paying an arm and a leg.

The New York chapter of this cheap yoga empire has five locations. Specializing in hot yoga, power vinyasa and power vinyasa flow, the spaces can get crowded but as founder Greg Gumicio told the NY Times, "Being able to do yoga with a foot in your face, that is a really powerful practice". Also, expect a more informal setting-- no "oms" and pop music on the stereo.
All classes are "open-level" to accommodate any type of student. In addition to vinyasa flow classes, try out a restorative class or maybe take up pilates.
