Maddow Rips Sunday Shows For GOP Guest Slant (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/10/11 09:58 AM ET Updated: 07/10/11 06:12 AM ET

Rachel Maddow lit into the Sunday morning talk shows on her Monday show for their guest selection on their latest programs. Specifically, Maddow was steamed that, a week after the killing of Osama bin Laden, the Sunday shows had three times as many Republican guests as Democratic ones.

Among those guests? Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice, Rudy Giuliani, and current Republican Senator Richard Lugar. The Democratic guests were John Kerry, former White House communications director Anita Dunn and National Security adviser Tom Donilon, who appeared on several of the shows.

"The Sunday shows are supposedly the apex of political debate, the pulsing throbbing heart of what is going on in American politics," Maddow said. "Is the biggest story in American politics right now retirees from the Bush administration and how they feel about stuff? Plus Dick Lugar?"

LOL. Are you kidding me. Maddow is counting guests and then making a broad conclusion. If anyone knows something about tilting and bias, it is Maddow. Takes one to know one

I like Maddow and her well done research about
the Koch brothers, greed insurance and drug
firms, etc......although she does beat an issue
to death sometimes.

But she recently lumped the millions who think
that day ten years ago was very complex...[see,
I can't even bring up it specifically, or some
blogs will c....]...
and put them in with the birther group.

We ALL know that day was complex, with
all kinds of stuff going on all over the
eastern US. EVEN some of the
Commissioner's have said that some
people LIE'D to them, and they want
to re-investigate! Some issues like
"7" were not even touched oddly...
the "fire" did it theory was not even
said to make much sense, by the govt !

So while there is an avalanche of media
this year to "close the case," we instead
need to google, youtube, and see what
many other's have found inconsistent with
the official "story." Over 1,000 engineers
strongly disagree with 7 for example...
they are putting their career's on the line...
and yet some smear them like the
terrible Nat Geo hit job in 2006....guess
what....owned by Rupert Murdoch....
follow the trail....

I say, sleep in late, or go to church, or go for a nice Sunday late-morning walk in the park with your family, boycott the corporate talking heads and their GOP meat-puppet guests. Fareed is an exception, but he's just as informative on-line; perhaps even more so.

Rachel is too intelligent. How is it she is allowed to “spew” logic and common sense to the masses is beyond me. I am slow on the uptake…I wasn’t counting but I had a bad taste after watching shows I naively expected to be neutral or fair in their reporting. I watch the BBC now and again… However, there is nothing better than reading as much as possible. Lies and hypocrisy become obvious if you are aware of the facts. Facts are the bane of right wingers.

All the guests on the Sunday shows need to be hooked up to a combination lie-detector/taser. A good shock to the privates every time they lie.

Red Dog 911, Gal here responding.
Where did you get your stat's? I can't imagine you watched all of the shows live seeing that many overlap. Sounds like you came loaded with the usual talking points to "try" to make your point. If you work that fastidiously to get the airtime down pat, perhaps you missed what they were actually saying. You know, a lot of stuff happened in the last couple of weeks.
I'm looking forward to your critique of this mornings lineup when the "balance" is tilted as such: 8 republicans as opposed to 1 Democratic guest.

We all know this has been true for years.I gave up on Sunday morning shows years ago.Nice of Maddow to mention how bad things are, instead of just taking it for granted. When President Obama was elected I thought I would see a change, boy was I wrong.

This is proof of GOP-leaning corporatist control of the media. These GOP hacks represent at best two-fifths of the country. The stooges that are paid to complain of the "liberal media" should be paraded in public and forced to reconcile the propaganda with the reality. We've been seeing far too much of this lately. Corporations cannot point to any evidence that suggests viewers are more inclined to accept GOP codswallop over reality-based reporting which invariably undercuts the Republican mendacity and overreaching that is shoved routinely in the face of the viewing public within the format of these programs. Maddow is absolutely correct and this fraudulence is beyond annoying. John McCain and the GOP LOST the election! Perhaps the corporatist media didn't get the memo.

This is exactly the reason that I stopped watching the Sunday shows. It appears to be all conservative republicans, all of the time. Talk about an unbalanced view of our nation. I no longer see any reason to listen to this mess.

The Absolute Worse part about the whole thing was that it was beyond obvious that the Bush people had Rehearsed their responses, or at least collaborated on the story they wanted to spin. The notion that Bush somehow got Bin Laden THREE YEARS after he left office and TEN YEARS after 9/11 is laughable. Yet Every Last One of Them said the same Thing.

I'd be willing to bet that few people who consider themselves analytical thinkers watched the Bin Laden episode unfold and said to themselves "Bush finally got him!" It is Preposterous!
Yet everyone of these Bush people shamelessly said that very thing.

AND, while taking their preposterous victory lap, Andy Card had the nerve to accuse the President of taking a victory lap and "beating his chest." Luckily, the rest of us had the benefit of seeing the Truth with our own d@mn EYES.

In actuality, ALL of these networks missed out, because the most riveting, most detailed, most honest account of Bin Laden's demise was given by the President himself on 60 Minutes Sunday night. I've read that most people were transfixed by his account of the details.

It was a defining moment for the President, and put the lie to--and BLEW AWAY--all of that nonsense that was on the Sunday morning shows. Once again, the President Won.
