Mosques Vandalized After Osama Bin Laden's Death

Mosque Bin Laden

First Posted: 05/10/11 09:27 PM ET Updated: 07/10/11 06:12 AM ET

Muslim-Americans in Louisiana's Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area reported the defacement of a local mosque by a man in a blue pickup truck, the most recent incident in a string of possible hate crimes following the killing of Osama bin Laden.

According to police reports, a white male was seen tampering with the doors of a local mosque on Monday, and raw pork was found hanging from the door handles after his departure. Adherents of Islam do not consume pork, which they consider unclean.

Although members of the mosque will not press charges, police have said the incident could be classified as a hate crime.

"It appears that the individual who did this tried to intimidate the individuals at this location," Bossier City Police Department spokesman Mark Natale told KSLA-TV's Brittany Pieper.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday to launch an investigation into the incident.

"These types of incidents will continue to occur as long as our nation's leaders fail to speak out forcefully against the growing anti-Islam sentiment in American society," CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said in a statement.

CAIR has also called for a probe of a case in Portland, Maine, in which the walls of a central mosque were spraypainted to read, "Osama today, Islam tomorow [sic]." The graffiti was scrawled during the mosque's morning prayer session just one day after U.S. forces killed bin Laden at a compound in Pakistan last week.

And earlier this week, a mosque in Amherst, N.Y., was defaced by a sign planted in the lot adjacent to the town's mosque which read, "Bomb making -- next driveway."

Good to know that Muslim did not press charges or raise an issue. Allah watches everybody and He delays his punishment for certain period of time. All muslims should be patience and should take inspiration from the Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions and follow them on how they were going with diffcult times initially.

Finally we all know that Allah helped them with things they never imagine would be ever helpful and made them the best of nations among the people. As prophet said in his last sermon "Beware of Satan, for your safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things. "

These are small acts of satan and we should ask help of one Allah, the creator of heavens and earths.

Peace unto you All.

Attacking Mosques and certain Churches is the work of cowards who creep about at night....

By their blind acts of hatred they will ultimately destroy themselves.

As a convert to Islam, I'm glad to see that this group of Muslims are being tolorant of those that are personally attacking them. No one has proof of these Muslims making bombs. Sometimes as Muslims we don't even know who will fall for all the crap that the "Jihadists" fill their head with. Besides that...as a community we all like to cover the sun with our finger. It is only covered by the finger of the person but everyone else around can still see the sun; meaning that with in the US community there are dangers from even Americans. Postal workers have gone on rampages, students that have killed so many in their own schools, sect suicide pacts...etc. Right now people fear one group, but we are terrorized here in the US more so by our own people...gangsters, thugs, drug dealers...etc. Muslims are the least of the group. As far as I understand it "La Mara" has overrun Washington DC. What does this really say about us here in the US?

Sure I'm kicking a hornets nest here by asking, but why do liberals seem to have such a problem with refusing to have an open debate with people who disagree with them? This happens with the GOP all of the time but I expect those who lean toward the liberal side to have a tolerance of ALL points of view.

I'm not sure which party I should be leaning toward or 'with', but if I want to get an abortion, possess a gun and protest against something I think is wrong I should be able to, shouldn't I?

White people actually believe that they are being discriminated against, just because there is an African American in office.

Some do.

Some of us (me, at least) don't feel that way, even a little bit.

Some of us even voted for him.

And, some of us ... well, this white person, anyway, are happily planning to do so again.

I don't think so - not bigotry-wise, at least.

I first really got wind of anti-Muslim bigotry in the U.S. last spring/summer, when an anti-Muslim blogger Pamela Geller coined the phrase "Mosque at Ground Zero", to describe an Islamic Community Center project initiated by peace-promoting Sufi Muslims ... but, apparently, it's been fairly prevalent, largely in Europe, but in the U.S. as well, for a number of years, now.

And, like all bigotry, it will run its course.

And, of course, the most emphatic bigots don't feel they're expressing bigotry at all -- they feel they're articulating the truth.

They're not.

Not even a little bit (as many of us know, of course).

For those who seems to imply that Muslims are less of a citizen or question their patriotism, are oblivious of the fact that not only many Muslim are born here, but that nearly 30% of American are African American and many has served in the US military..

Sadly, historically the African American has suffered constant discrimination, are now suffering an additional discrimination i.e being Muslim. Recently an Imam and his son was detained when trying to board on a airline. They both had two strike against then being black and Muslim.

Could? It absolutely is a hate crime, and if Obama had any spine, he would condemn it and similar acts.

Some hateful Americans have only shown their "patriotism" only in terms of discrimination and bigotry. These folks do the rest of America a discredit with their unbending position of hate and revenge. Not their finest hour.

Sadly true..... but then I see other acts of stunning kindness in the Methodist church in Tennessee, sharing its' facilities with Muslims who needed to celebrate Ramadan .....Such acts of inspired goodness, give me hope...

You people are the biggest bunch of racial profilers I've ever seen! I challenge any of you to move to Metro Detroit for a month, better yet, how about move right into Dearborn and see how shariah law has taken hold in that town. You can't hold a protest there if you're a white Christian, as they hate Christians the same as they hate America. You will see first hand the regular flag and bible burnings in the name of the hate filled religion and nation of islam. Try to sit through one flag burning while they chant "Death to the Americans" without coming unglued. But that's what us American people are supposed to do, let them trample all over our FLAG, our CONSTITUTION, and NATION. All the while the people who have no idea in the world what it's like to be subjected to these filthy people who hate us and our way of life.

I'm not condoning the destruction of property, please don't misunderstand. But regular American people, the one's who were born here and love AMERICA feel as though they are under attack! We're not allowed to say how we feel, what's in our hearts because it will OFFEND them. Most who are not here legally and take welfare from our state the minute they sneak in. Can you not see why this angers people? Our government is not listening to us, the AMERICAN PEOPLE!!

"Regular American people"? Hate to break it to you, but many Americans are Muslim; does that make them 'irregular American people? Does that include Muslims who are born here?

America is not a flag, a document or a piece of paper; it is the ideals that founded a nation, and have ensured that nation's survival for over 230 years. It has survived a civil war, segregation, depression and sexism. Holding to its values of freedom, justice & equality, it will survive terrorism, too. But expanded bigotry, intolerance, cruelty and hate will doom this nation, if we let it. With the exception of Native Americans, all others came to this land as immigrants; our support of our founding ideas are what make the very concept of democracy work. It is why other immigrants search out our shores in search of a better life, free from being subjected to the whims of despots and those who would tell others they aren't fit to taste freedom.

No matter what race, faith, culture or political affiliation one has, one group of Americans is NOT better or more deserving than any other. That is what America means: "With liberty and justice for ALL", not just all who agree with you.

These sad people, mired in ignorance and fear, have always been with us...BUT we've succeeded never the less to advance liberty, democracy, freedom, and equal rights under the law, for over 200 years. I pray we continue to do so. Its important to speak out and take a stand against injustice. While I'm not particularly religious myself, I still find inspiration and guidance in the story of the good Samaritan. There are those in our society too who hate and beat the stranger.

Now you are profiling and discriminating against anyone not born here. It may surprise you but nationalized citizens know more about the US Constitution than native born. Love of country does not always mean you were born there.

These people are idiots that first would vandalize then use the excuse because of our retribution to OBL. This mornings LA Times had an article by Tim Rutten, columnist, in which he refers, to what I think is applicable, on these type of actions. He refers to the concept of "syndrome thinking": an insistence on holding bundles of unexamined beliefs that are linked by something other than logic (and I would also add reason and fact). Seems to me this applies to the Teabaggers and the GOP in their policies that enthrall the most undereducated and least intelligent of our society. An example he uses is excellent; and I quote, holding in one's mind "the insistence on liberty's primacy with an antipathy to equal rights for gays". Perfect. Much to nuanced or complicated for Teabaggers and GOP to understand.

I agree AGM there is no room for this and it angers and saddens me all at the same time.....good post !!!! these people should be ashamed....disgusting display....Those of the Christian faith need to condemn this action. Especially when so many want to ask where Muslim voices are against violence and terrorism.....Hypocrisy is ugly no matter where it comes from.
