Colbert Applauds Gingrich's Announcement Of Future Announcement (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/11/11 05:37 PM ET Updated: 07/11/11 06:12 AM ET

On Tuesday's show, Colbert praised (i.e. relentlessly mocked) the presidential campaign announcements of both Newt Gingrich and Donald Trump. Did we say announcements? We meant pre-announcement announcements.

Apparently, the way to build a buzz for your campaign isn't through sound policies or a unique vision, but through ham-fisted teasers. In this clip, Colbert celebrates the non-stop excitement of Gingrich (and Trumps) announcement blitzkrieg.

I gave Colbert a standing ovation for "... that's where all his supporters are."

I think Trump does alot of things in his mind.ONLY in his mind because that's the only place he can win.Not to mention, the way things are going,no one is going to be watching the final episode of The Apprentice to hear the announcement about the announcement.Woe is me.And kudos to Mr.Colbert.

These political games are so tiring, either make an announcement, or just be quiet. The media has got to stop giving them the spotlight. Just tell them," when you are ready to commit, give us a call."

Progressive is good; regressive, not so much.

Self-promoters are easy targets for Colbert and it's a lot of fun when he points out (again) the silliness of their campaigns.

All the pre-announcing reminded me of a certain rally last year... :)

One day, X might make a pre-pre-pre-pre-announcement that he might form an exploratory committee.

Maybe. Perhaps. He hasn't decided yet. He's got a 3 p.m. news conference scheduled for tomorrow where he's expected to announce that he'll make up his mind next Tuesday. We think.

He's waiting for the inevitable "conversation" with God, in which God (inevitably) tells him that God wants him to run. This has worked for Republicans for years in getting the religious right to vote against their own best economic interests, so why would they stop now? When one of the arch conservatives says that God told him (or her in the case of Bachmann) NOT to run, then I might listen.
