AOL Travel News:

It's happening again, this time on Delta: A Boston-bound passenger tried to open a plane's emergency door on Tuesday night, the Associated Press reports.

It's unclear why a passenger on flight 1102, en route from Orlando to Boston, wanted to open the door on the flight, Boston Logan spokesman Phil Orlandella told the AP.

At least in today's climate, this knucklehead probably received a beating he won't forget.

Why do crazy people try to open emergency exits while in flight?? It's not possible! I always wonder what their plan is if the exit did open? Jump out? Just to see?

I think it's very clear why he tried to open the door. He knew the celtics were going to lose to the Heat and he just couldn't face it.

This will happen even more with in-flight movies featuring Ashton Kutcher.

I used to fly Delta for business to Detroit. The food in first class tasted and smelled like dog food. I don’t blame the poor sot for trying to get out. BTW: Next time, try waiting until landing. Much safer.

We're making this way too complicated.

When the plane landed, this gentleman should have been taken off, asked to kneel down on the tarmac, then had a bullet put through his head. That could cut through all the BS and make things much simpler.

I don't know which is more idiotic- the fact the article was printed or the pax who thought he/she could open the door in a pressurized cabin. The doors are held closed by the cabin pressurization and cannot be opened during flight unless the cabin pressure is reduced to be equal to the outside pressure.

The pressure at 35,000 feet is about 8 pounds per square inch in the cabin. The average modern jet door is about 6'-4" high by 3'6" wide or 3192 square inches x 8 pounds per square inch= 25,536 pounds of pull a passenger would have to exert on the door to open it at 35,000 feet altitude.

Ain't goin' to happen....EVER

There must be some kind of way out of here...

I never thought about that. Seriously. My irrational fear of flying never allows for any kind of sensible thought.

Thank you.

Faved.

I used to love flying. Now, with all the bee ess security measures, I'd rather fly my iPad with Google Earth and not deal with the hassles.

Yet another fool more than willling to act without thought. Are we sure his person is not a politician? Seems to be well qualified to be a Bay Area wind bag.

Let me guess a teabagger disputing the effects of vacuum and gravity! Maybe we need a moon shot level program to combat stupidity. Naturally the republicans would oppose this since they depend on it

How can you open an emergency door at such an altitude, the pressure won't allow you.

What is Delta putting in the cabin Air that its passengers are freaking out.
02:58 PM on 05/11/2011
Must be the air since we know it's not the snacks, leg room, blankets, pillows, or anything else that would make being in a tin can hurtling at 600 mph a mile above earth with a bunch of potential terrorists and lunatics tolerable.

Perhaps the soon-to-be former owners of the L.A. Dodgers are strategizing to buy Delta.
There will be muggings onboard before long.

Ah, it has been such a good week for Delta.

Why do none of these incidents happen on European short haul flights - even discount Greyhounds of the Sky, Ryan Air or FlyBe???
