CHICAGO — An activist priest suspended by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago says he'll start preaching at other churches if he's not reinstated at his South Side parish by this weekend.
The Chicago Tribune reports that the Rev. Michael Pfleger made the comment Tuesday during a meeting with parishioners at St. Sabina Catholic Church. Pfleger has led the parish for 30 years.
Pfleger said he has received offers to preach from around the U.S.
Cardinal Francis George suspended Pfleger last month after Pfleger suggested he would leave the church if he was reassigned. A spokeswoman for the archdiocese says George plans to meet with Pfleger but has not yet set a time.
In 2008, Pfleger was suspended for nearly two weeks after mocking then-Sen. Hillary Clinton during her presidential run.
