Obama To Give Major Address On U.S. Middle East Policy

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama will give a major address on U.S. policy on the Middle East in the “relatively near future,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced Wednesday.

Carney gave no other details on timing or content, but said the speech would be “fairly soon" and would reach "a broader audience than just the Arab world." He wouldn’t say whether the speech would come before Jordan's King Abdullah II meets with Obama at the White House on May 17, or before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses a joint meeting of Congress on May 24.

Obama's meeting with King Abdullah will be their first since pro-reform protests broke out in Jordan in January.
