Sean Hannity: Obama 'Back To His Radical Roots' With Common Invite (VIDEO)

Sean Hannity

First Posted: 05/11/11 09:56 AM ET Updated: 07/11/11 06:12 AM ET

Sean Hannity devoted two segments of his Tuesday show to Michelle Obama's decision to invite rapper Common to the White House on Wednesday night for a poetry reading. Hannity was not pleased with the choice.

"This administration will never learn its lesson," he said, adding that, "not surprisingly," Common had performed at Jeremiah Wright's church in 2007. He then proceeded to read some of Common's previous poems, which he said called for the killing of police and the assassination of President Bush.

One of his guests, Bucknell University Prof. James Peterson, attempted to explain that Common was merely portraying a character in his poems, but Hannity was having none of it.

"This is not the guy that you invite to the White House for a poetry reading," he said. "This is not the guy we want our kids to listen to." President Obama, he said, "goes back to his radical roots again and again and again: Ayers, Wright, Pflager."

In his next segment, Hannity invited Karl Rove on to discuss the matter. Rove called Common a "thug" and said the invitation was a slap in the face to all who wanted to unify the country in the wake of the killing of Osama bin Laden.

LMAO... And we wonder why there is STILL a divide in this country! Instead of learning about people and cultures different than your own... you demonize them... FYI Karl Rove... Common is THE farthest thing from a THUG! I call shenanigans!

If there was an annual award for "Fake Outrage" Sean Hannity would be in contention for it every year.

We ALL know Hannity's right whether you like him or not. Just because a small section of Americans have either lost their sense of morality, or maybe never had one to begin with doesn't mean that the majority of us out there don't as well? Somehow, what has happened is that wrong is now right, bad is now good, up is down, etc., etc. and will only get worse unfortunately which is why we need people like Hannity to keep things in perspective in an out-of-control, morally-bankrupt country.

Watch this and let me know how Hannity is right. The lines Hannity took are from a couplet in which Common writes that violence ("Cop Killing") is wrong and seeks knowledge over violence. I feel it is pointless to create such a stir for out-of-context poetry. It amazes me that this man has a job.

The only thing I know is that you shouldn't post comments on blogs criticizing poets if you couldn't pass a 4th grade English class.

I've got some confidential news for ya, Mr. Hannity -- now lean over so I can whisper it:

NOBODY CARES.

The bigger question would be, when is Hannity ever pleased about anything? I would hate to be this angry and judgemental all the time. What is wrong with this guy and his followers, don't they ever want to just be happy?

I'm outraged that anyone allows Hannity to speak in public. Anti-pollution laws are still in effect, aren't they?

I'm not familiar with Mr. Common's work, but come on, lyrics are lyrics, most the the artist who write them write for the key reason, MONEY! Let's face it rap music is popular, why, because of the lyrics, lyrics are written and written based on the popular topics of the day. One might ask why do people listen to rap songs if the lyrics are about your bitch, my bitch, killing anyone, doing/selling drugs or whatever. See, I don't prefer that music so I don't understand why people would listen and/or buy those songs. How does a listener relate to the lyrics. But let me end by saying, a lyric is a lyric and in this country we can write most things and if someone wants to listen, buy or whatever they can. I like softer music but I respect and defend others' rights to listen to whatever. By inviting Common to the White House shows diversity, what was diverse about Reagan having the Beach Boys perform every July 4th? Hardly diverse. I think this is just another, We're scared 'cause he's black and stuff and not like us!" Get over it. (signed a white man who loves the USA!)

OK Hannity. Like Beck, just ONE college credit might suggest you have at least tried to learn something verified by someone, somewhere.
