Meghan McCain, Cindy McCain Fire Back At Glenn Beck (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/12/11 08:44 AM ET Updated: 07/12/11 06:12 AM ET

UPDATE: Meghan McCain responded to Glenn Beck's mockery of her in a Thursday column for the Daily Beast.

"Clearly you have a problem with me, and possibly women in general, but the truth is, it’s 2011 and I heard your show on Fox was canceled," McCain wrote. "Isn’t that an indication that the era of the shock jock pundit is over?...There really is no need to make something like my participation in a skin cancer PSA into a sexist rant about my weight and physical appearance, because I’m going to let you in on a little secret, Glenn: you are the only one who looks bad in this scenario, and at the end of the day you have helped me generate publicity for my skin cancer PSA, a cause that I feel quite passionate about."

ORIGINAL STORY: Cindy McCain lashed out at Glenn Beck after he mimed vomiting over her daughter Meghan's recent skin cancer PSA.

McCain was only one of the women featured in the ad, which compared not wearing sunscreen to being naked, and which showed McCain seemingly naked.

On Beck's Wednesday show, he and his co-hosts spent over eight minutes mocking McCain. Beck pretended to vomit repeatedly (with detailed sound effects) while looking at McCain's ad or even hearing her name.

"Put some extra clothes on," he said. "Like, lots of extra clothes...has she thought about a burqa, just to be extra safe?"

McCain's mother, who has suffered from skin cancer, was not happy, and she fired off this tweet on Wednesday afternoon:

Later, McCain even retweeted liberal pundit Roland Martin, who asked, "Actually, I'm wondering if the National Organization for Women will call out @GlennBeck's sexism?"

Glen who?

I don't blame her for being angry at Beck and everything she said is true.

I just hope she was as angry at her husband for his equally hurtful and tasteless public remarks about Chelsea Clinton.

John Mccain has no moral high ground when it comes to this matter.

It seems Glenn Beck doesn't like women who appear naked. There's nothing wrong with that, he should just go ahead and come out.

The trouble with our democracy is, you get people like Glen Beck who use free speech
as a personal public toilet. And worse yet, you get the media to give him a microphone to
poop through his mouth.

You Go Meghan !!! Even though we have opposite political views, I have so much admiration and respect for you. You are smart, intelligent, strong, realistic and respectful. It is a good sign that maybe someday the conservative party will have people like you to represent them. GB is a waste of flesh and blood and he should be dropped off in Pakistan to fend for himself. Could you imagine that enjoyable footage... Keep on doing what you do Meghan!!!

Meghan McCain, in my opinion, is an example of an apple falling rather far from the tree that bore it. She seems to, more than not, think things through and give thoughtful replies to questions that she fields. I've come to admire some things about her in spite my views about her parents.

She's an intelligent, thoughtful Centrist-to-Center-Right Republican.

The very type of person that the Conservative Movement is trying to purge the Republican Party of, in the name "ideological purity".

...and the more people like her get driven out of office...or into the ranks of "Independant" voters...the more incapable the GOP becomes at governing in any sort of responsible manner.

Which is why a demagogue like Beck, went after her in such a vicious and personal fashion. Someone like Meghan McCain has both the intelligence and the will to call out authoritarians like Beck for their hypocrisy, prejudice, and fear-mongering....and she can't be dismissed as a "liberal".

Have to wonder what things might be like if there were more Republicans of that mindset. We might actually get something worthwhile done for a change.

I repeat what I said before, the McCains can dish it out but they can't take it. they forget all the times John McCain and his followers called President Obama Hitler, a Monkey, terrorist, illegitimate, unqualified, and all the other names they called him and not a word was said by Cindy, John, or Little Meggie.

I sincerely hope you aren't intending to condone or excuse Beck's inexcusable behavior. That would mean your conduct is inexcusable too. Beck proved himself to be a sexist and a boor. That deserves the utmost condemnation. Kudos to Meghan and Cindy McCain.
11:51 AM on 05/16/2011
Agreed.

Except I'd just call Beck a boor, and a schoolyard bully (and class clown) who never grew up....and is getting paid handsomely to entertain other people who never bothered to grow up either.

Not quite true. Remember that crazy old woman during the 2008 campaign — who made Saturday Night Live in a parody — who told McCain that she didn't trust Obama because she thought he was an Arab?

Paraphrasing, McCain shook his head and said, "No, ma'am. He's a decent, family man. We just happen to disagree."

I don't like McCain one whit. I like him even less, if that's possible, for his spoiled brat behavior since he lost the election -- it was foreordained given the record of his predecessor. One can fault him for not speaking out more. One can fault him for choosing the Wicked Witch of the North as his running mate who certainly needed a muzzle for some of the c*** that came out of her mouth (and continues to).

But you can't hold McCain responsible for the bigoted behavior on display all across the land prior to and after Obama's election. That is all on the people doing it. McCain might not have spoken up as forcefully as he could have, but he isn't the main reason for the Nazi catcalls. Just another example of the dark side of the American characterre on display for the world to see.

But you can blame McCain for the cruel jokes he publicly made about a then adolescent Chelsea Clinton being "ugly because her father is Janet Reno".

He is not a nice man and Beck is worse.

if only the good muslims would speak out against their radical brothers as cindy mccain is doing against beck.

glenn beck is bombastic and ill mannered and that anyone pays any attention to his publicity stunts is beyond me. he adds nothing to the world beyond his vitriol. he disgusts me.

beck can be fully clothed or even invisible (i.e. radio) ... and I want to vomit.

Did McCain forget about the "ugly" joke he made about Chelsea Clinton when she was a child?
07:03 AM on 05/16/2011
Those comments came back to haunt him more than once. Also, I find it odd that that Hillary found him a preferable candidate over Obama during the primaries. I guess it's all politics.

So that makes it OK for Beck to insult McCain's daughter?
12:01 PM on 05/16/2011
No, but it certainly doesn't give him the moral high ground.

I don't believe he ever apologized for that.

Cindy responded appropriately.
