World Table Tennis Championships 2011: Tournament Commences In Rotterdam (PHOTOS)

The 2011 World Table Tennis Championships are underway and things are just heating up.

Day 5 of the tournament, which is being hosted in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, commenced on Wednesday. The entirety of the event runs from May 8 to May 15.

Men's and women's singles played Wednesday, providing some memorable images for the tournament. Play now moves forward into the second round.

China leads the way in top players according to the BBC. The sport has been popular throughout the nation from the time of Mao Zedong, and China's affection for ping pong has never diminished.

Today, the Chinese players have got pretty much everything, speed, tecnique and power.

The new generation are really wonderful players. Wang Hao, Zhang Jike and Ma Lin are all ranked in the men's top five and the women's team fill places one to five in the world rankings, led by Li Xiaoxia.
