Jon Stewart Mocks 'Square' Newt Gingrich's Twitter Campaign Launch (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart Newt Gingrich

Jon Stewart closed out this week of "The Daily Show" with a hilariously unabated takedown of Newt Gingrich and his Twitter campaign launch, mocking pretty much everything about the conservative candidate. For example, did you know that if Gingrich was a superhero, his power would be the ability to "turn things beige?"

The Gingrich mock fest began with the announcement itself, which said he was officially throwing his hat into the 2012 Presidential ring and linked to a YouTube video containing his first campaign ad. Stewart couldn't get over how low-budget the video was, with its solid grey background and music that sounds like it should be in the background of a Sega Genesis game:

"Who thought it was a good idea to do your 'state of the art' campaign computer launch in a Sears photo booth with a Casio accompaniment?"

Next, Stewart had to address that Gingrich didn't make his announcement on TV like everyone else. Does his social media use mean he thinks he's young and hip? Stewart assured him that "no matter how clever your hashtags be," it's just not going to work because he's "not cool."

"You're what might be known to your generation as 'a square,'" Stewart said, before suggesting Gingrich might have been better off announcing his candidacy via SuDoku puzzle.

Stewart indeed had a field day with Gingrich, but it wasn't all negative (however he does work in a hilarious chyron of Gingrich as the beige-inducing superhero). Stewart cited the show "20/20"'s failed attempt at appealing to the young demographic as a warning, and encouraged him to put down the phony Twitter account and embrace who he really is: a Smartypants.

Watch the full segment below, including Stewart's advice on where Gingrich should really be seeking votes.

Big goals for such a little man, Newt. Go hook up with some kind of different reality because yours is not working. Like me, you ain't cool.

Oh NO! Does this mean that Jon Stewart won't be voting for Newt? How will humanity survive this event?

I'm pretty sure there will be a great deal of people not voting for Newt and humanity will be just fine.

i find it funny that the 'family values' and 'defense of marriage' crowd find it so easy to vote for these hypocrites year after year... any person that claims 'family values' and votes for newt is a LIAR, plain and simple.

Notice how Stewert is such a smarmy liberal, yet never has anything productive to offer to get us out of the mess we are in?

I'll tell you what he offers that's productive: respectful, thoughtful conversation with every guest, whether he agrees with them or considers them lunatics. You and Mitch McConnell could take a lesson.

Newt should have dresses in a prison uniform, in line at the IRS paying the tax money he owes the U.S.A.

That's not right. Newt's a lot of things, but only nazis are nazis and no one compares to Hitler but Hitler. It's disrespectful to the people and families that sacrificed in WWII to compare anyone to the nazis or Hitler, no matter how distasteful or repugnant they are. Whether it's the left or the right that does it, it's wrong.

It's ironic but I think "nazi" broke the threshold into the mainstream vocabulary, mostly as a funny word...Remember the "Soup nazi" ?

When these guys were in thier prime and the middle aged now were americas youth, young people didnt vote so these GOP'rs had a chance since middle class america being mostly white and middle aged were the only ones voting. Minorities didnt vote. Why would/should they back then. NOW we have an african american president, youth today DOES vote and these once middle class/ Now seniors think the old way/ politics as usual still cuts it. Theyre finished. With youth and mminorities voting now middle-aged white america isnt the majority anymore. RIP GOP you had your run

Don't be so sure, the GOP has adapted by learning how to get a message out in slogans and sound bites, something the Democrats haven't yet learned. Obama can go on for 10 minutes about offshore drilling, explaining the dangers to the environment and the lack of any real significance it would have on gas prices, but all Palin has to do is chant "Drill Baby Drill!" and her constituency gets a hard-on.

Are there really people laughing on this show or was it a laugh box controlled by the editor. I found absolutel nothing funny about anything Jon Stewart said in that piece and I love comedy. While I do find it interesting how Newt went with hip way to anounce his candidacy, I look forward to all the candidates tripping over themselves trying to be hip...

Awards do not mean much to me. I think that they are an overated bunch of overpaid celebrities patting each other on the back...As far as funny, the piece I saw was not funny at all...in my opinion, and I love comedy.

Jon Stewart is not a news site, nor does he pretend to be (like Hannity and O'Reilly do). He's a comedian. I understand the confusion since the comedians on FOX news try to portray themself as a new site.

His last name is really Liebowitz and not Stewart? OK, I'm convinced! I wonder if Piyush Jindal and Willard Romney know about this.
