'Successful Alcoholics': Lizzy Caplan And T.J. Miller Short Film Now Online (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/14/11 12:13 PM ET Updated: 07/14/11 06:12 AM ET

After making the rounds on the film festival circuit, the short comedy "Successful Alcoholics," starring T.J. Miller ("Cloverfield," "Yogi Bear") and Lizzy Caplan ("Party Down," "True Blood") is available to watch in full on Funny or Die.

The short, which was directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts ("Funny Or Die Presents") and written by Miller, follows a couple whose "casual drinking" extends to all hours of the day. But unlike most problem drinkers, their professional and personal lives appear to not be harmed by boozing 24/7. On the contrary, drinking often makes them more successful.

Be on the lookout for cameos from ringers such as Whitney Cummings, Nick Kroll, Tony Hale, Matt Braunger, and Nick Thune in this very funny -- and surprisingly touching -- 25-minute short.

If you think and act like the ONLY way you can have fun and enjoy life is by impairing the senses, then THAT is the problem to be addressed. Substances, including alcohol, give the illusion of a better state of being. It is pathetic that one would settle for an illusion rather than the real thing. One needs to be a master of ones self, not ANY substance.

This was a great little movie, however, the people involved bored me at about 00:08:00.

Ugh, I think they followed me around for a couple of weeks and wrote my life story.

I don't know what's sadder in this film: the alcoholics who, although dead on - always end up looking like the sad cliches that they are, or the co-dependent idiots around them who mistake alcoholism for genius.

I love this. The premise is a very unique, interesting minefield to wander through. "I loved those guys until they quit drinking. So-and-so was never the same when they dried out."

The main characters are funny, exciting, good looking but the catch is that they're constantly drunk. They are deplorable people who, at their core, are having the time of their life. This is alcoholism at it's finest - before the money runs out, before there are consequences to face and before they're bleeding from their colons. Alcoholism doesn't begin in the gutter, if it did few would be afflicted with this disease. The truth is that alcoholism starts out as a very enjoyable diversion. Those suffering from alcoholism enjoying themselves but are disconnected from realizing how much their drinking makes everyone around them miserable. And to a small degree, maybe the other people resented this couple because they refused to be miserable or remorseful.

Well done. What a fresh take on a wrenching subject. Painfully, hilariously honest performances and outstanding writing. If this short doesn't win some sort of award I'll eat my hat.

It won some audience award at Sundance last year. SUCCESS!
