Baby Named After Facebook's 'Like'

First Posted: 05/16/11 03:48 PM ET Updated: 07/16/11 06:12 AM ET

Parents Lior and Vardit Adler have named their newborn daughter "Like" after Facebook's "like" button, reports Galgalatz, an Israeli news outlet.

According to a translation of the Galgalatz article, the parents were looking for a unique name for their baby girl and liked the sound of the word "Like." The name was not intended to be a gimmick, nor an ad for the social networking site.

Like's father, Lior, says he himself is not the biggest Facebook fan, with only some 120 friends on the social networking site.

Like is not the first baby to be named after Mark Zuckerberg's site: earlier this year, an Egyptian father named his child "Facebook" in a nod to the social networking service's role in the country's revolution.

I feel pity for this child...

I suppose that's better than "Dislike" - but horrid, nonetheless. Maybe this is why there's no dislike button, to prevent such an atrocity....

Condemning a child to a lifetime of being the butt of valley-girl jokes.
Um, Like, what's up?
Like, you wanna go to the mall?
This is Like, my friend...

These parents seem to be attention whores. They also named one child "Pie" and another one Dvash, which is Hebrew for honey. I feel sorry for these children... they will have a lot of difficulty getting jobs later, will absolutely get bullied in school (God forbid "Pie" is heavy, she'll never hear the end of it!)....

I understand the desire to be unique, but parents really should think about the impact that giving your child a name like that can have on their life.

Years ago, I named my son MicroSoft, and now he can't get a date. Girls turn away when he introduces himself, (Hi I am micro soft). Apparently, admitting that you are tiny and flaccid is not a big turn on for girls. Let this be a warning to parents who seek to give their children exotic names.

Interesting. A pet name such as "sweet tweet" makes sense, but Like? If Lior and Vardit want to interpret Like's cries, they can check out "A Cry Is Just a Cry"

I really hope this kid NEVER talks to an American tweenager - she'll hear her name at least 17 times in one sentence! :/

They just sound like very positive people!

(though the parents of 'Facebook' need a good talking to)
