Using the dodge of pretending this roll-out was all about alt energy bought Pickens a compliant press for his real goal--getting clearance to frack out natural gas, impact on the water tables be damned.

His '100 years of natural gas' meme is a joke--multiple people have looked at the numbers and made the case that they don't add up. But a deus-ex-machina solution looks awfully good to Americans  Read More...

Dylan Walsh on MSNBC had RFK Jr on Friday with Bill Haney re. movie they've made called "The Last Mountain on the unbelievable devastation of mountain top removal for coal in West Virginia. Massey Coal... elected politicians and the media have been bought off and are owned so nothing is done... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfAC75wTiL8

Also, I just noticed that HP's topic headings no longer show Environment tab at top of page. Now the green issues are under "Politics" then "Green" for this page. Cld it be they want to hide these issues bec Arianna has expanded to include AOL and Howard Fineman is senior editor or whatever his title is? Don't want to be accused of paranoia, but I was taken aback, since I usually go right to politics. I looked for Environment tab and it wasn't there. People aren't going to see environment tab so the subject won't come to their attention I always just click on Politics tab.

Typical short term thinking .... Wind and solar will become a major part of the energy generation around the world in the coming years. Oil, coal and nuclear keep rising in price while wind and solar keep dropping in price. The additional research and development in wind and solar the past few years has dropped the price of both wind and solar installations. China is ramping up their wind and solar investments which will bring economies of scale and a further reduction in prices. Unlike other forms of energy once wind and solar plants go up there is no additional cost for fuel to keep them up and running like oil and coal.

T Boone Pickins proves once again that you can not trust the free market or corporations to just "do the right thing". Unregulated corporations would just as soon sell you cyanide to drink if they thought they could make a buck on it and get away with it. And so we need the consumer protection agency headed by Elizabeth Warren to reign in greedy corporations, and we need the EPA to punish corporations that choose toxic chemicals over green energy solutions, and we need the attorney generals office to put his thumb on big oil and push down hard.

T Boon's original plan was wind and gas, with the gas filling in when there was insufficient wind
That sounded like a good plan.

Now he drops the wind and goes with gas only ... Can we say, bait and switch green-wash.

Wind energy was only a carrot in the bait and switch scheme of pickens.

The Roscoe Wind Farm in Roscoe, Texas, owned and operated by E.ON Climate & Renewables is the world's largest wind farm (as of October 2009) with 627 wind turbines and a total installed capacity of 781.5 MW, which surpasses the nearby 735.5 MW Horse Hollow Wind Energy Center.[1] The project cost more than $1 billion and provides enough power for more than 250,000 average Texan homes. It is located about 200 miles (320 kilometers) west of Fort Worth, and spans parts of four Texas counties and covers nearly 100,000 acres (400 km2), several times the size of Manhattan.[2][1][3][4]

Cliff Etheredge, a local cotton farmer, helped to organize the project. In addition to its large size, the farm is also notable for the large number of individual land owners (as many as 400) who are expected to share in royalties from the project.[5] Wind farms are helping to revive the local economy in remote areas of West Texas and the Texas Panhandle.[1]

T Boone is trying to get American to think beyond the oil producing nations, and to develop altrnatived energy.

The cost of wind and solar keep dropping as oil, coal and nuclear keep going up.

Natural Gas is good but we should learn not to put all out eggs in one basket.

Gas is and has been the way to go for years. The USA a huge amount already, it burns cleanly and can be used virtually anyplace that utilizes Oil Products...

Wind power is a joke for many reasons, including cost. In the end it will be solar and gas...not wind.

A few hours spent studying "fracking" will likely disabuse you of the notion of "clean" natural gas.

Plans are a joke. Execution of those plans would be news since he keeps backtracking.

Australia and Europe woke up to thye fact many years ago that on a BTU basis, liquified gas is far cheaper and cleaner than gasoline. Obama and USA is stilll asleep.

Thier have been 837 earthquakes in the USA over the last week. 99.9% of them in the western USA....not in fracking areas...

I drive a used CNG (compressed natural gas Honda) Honda. Use to hate the short legs (200 miles between fill ups) but I bought a Phill unit for my house. It cost me about $0.88/gallon gasoline equivalent. It fills up every night and I love the 35/miles per gallon. It cost me $0.025/mile a hybrid is over $0.08/mile to put this in perspective! My wife's SUV cost her $0.25/mile she rides with me every chance she gets!

Early on I thought T.Boone was on to something. It's been a good choice financially for me!

Natural gas is clean and plentiful in the America. Expansion of natural gas drilling will provide much-needed jobs for American workers. Natural gas can power cars, homes, and factories. It doesn't erode the environment. It doesn't cause calamitous ocean spills. It doesn't leave radioactive waste. It has every going in its favor. But the oil cartels will never, ever, ever allow any other form of energy to usurp its profitable place in the energy hierarchy. And, sadly, our government will do everything it can to protect oil company profits -- even starting wars.

Google fracking or, better yet, see the documentary "Gasland." then we'll talk.

I'm sorry, but I don't take talking points from movies. The simple facts are that natural gas is clean and plentiful.

And if you want to become a surgeon watch the movie "Nightmare on Elm Street" learn the finer point of open heart surgery from the Dr. Freddie Krueger.

But if you want to really know about fracking read:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/55038072/2011-May-Duke-Nat-Gas-and-Water-Study

Also check out this site: understand people have had problems with their water wells having CH4 in them well before fracking. My aunt had a flaming faucet in the 60's in PA.

Want to know why?

There were over 180,000 oil wells drilled in this area before someone had the bright idea to record their locations!
