Playboy Club Nbc

It started as a taboo-challenging nightspot set to push boundaries and hemlines. Now, it's major network TV.

NBC announced that its new 1960's set drama "The Playboy Club" has been picked up to series for next season, grabbing the 10-11 pm Monday night timeslot. Set in the Playboy Club lounge in Chicago, the show follows Nick Dalton (played by Eddie Cibrian), a handsome mob-tied lawyer and man of the town, and Playboy Club waitress Maureen (played by Amber Heard).

The show is part of the network's attempt to shake up its inertia and last place standing.

To accompany the announcement, NBC has released four clips, which show both the glitz and grit of the subject matter and stars.

Long ago my dad took me to the Playboy club in Lake Geneva. Why they would give that bum a key I'll never know. So I am fascinated by bunnies. Probably won't be watching this show, but call me when they do "Huslter".

'Mad Men' with 'Bunnies'.

I have three Playboy Club mugs.
Suffice to say that NBC better not torpedo this the way they did Kings.

NBC? I can see it now. Just when one of the bunnies begins to lose her top, commercial break.

This and ABC's Pan Am are shameless Mad Men ripoffs.

Still, I might give this show a chance. Naturi Noughton is in this and her character was so sweet on Mad Men.

Actually, Playboy is what ultimately inspired the world Mad Men depicts.

Playboy was a higher quality version of a type of magazine that had been around a long time already by 1953. They popularized a lifestyle, and continued to do so past its time. As a show, Pan Am and The Playboy Club are obviously ripoffs of Mad Men.

Well, in the vacuum left by the hiatus of Mad Men, this show looks promising. I must say, however, that they have big shoes to fill. Watching the promo clips I can already tell that this series has a big network sheen to it already ... not necessarily a bad thing, but I worry that surface gloss will replace the snappy, taught dialogue and below-the-surface smoldering intrigue of MM. I wish them well and look forward to the pilot.

Love him or hate him, Eddie is one good-looking guy. Wasn't he on The Young and the Restless as a teenager a long time ago? Definitely improving with age.

Agreed. If he was single, I'd be all over that.
