WATCH: Arianna Discusses The Wellness Revolution

Sustainable Wellness Urban Zen

In a world where the default position seems to about making the unhealthy choice -- whether that’s eating poorly, avoiding exercise, holding onto stress or otherwise abusing our bodies -- there is a growing trend toward bringing the focus back to integrative health, combining modern medicine with more traditional practices.

“There is a revolution happening around wellness,” Arianna said recently at an event at Urban Zen in New York City, where she spoke in depth about health and wellness with Dr. Frank Lipman. “I think what has happened is that we’ve abandoned a lot of old wisdom.”

Throughout their talk the two spoke about the value of sleep (yes, the AOL HuffPost Media Group's office does have two nap rooms!), the importance of unplugging and recharging from everyday life, and the healing power of forgiving both ourselves and others. They also suggested identifying joy triggers, which are those things (like a good massage or a hot cup of coffee) that make you happy, and then incorporating them into your day.

I suppose I should practice some Zen to deal with the nine times my screen has been blacked out with ads this session. All hail AOL!

Massage is more than just a "joy trigger". There are serious physical and physiological benefits that come with regular massage therapy.

Blame it on ambient temperature, genes, sleeplessness, neuropeptides (sounds weighty), plastic bags, gut bacteria, fructose, brown fat, the bossa nova. These divert the issue from the real one: sugar (glucose) in its many guises, and its downstream metabolites. Stop the sugar, stop the progression of weight and illness. It is not that easy though. If it were, we would be less apt to blame it on the bossa nova, and we would have mothers against sugar. But they are addicted too! and the purveyors of this scourge take full advantage if it. I hope Arianna is right about the wellness revolution...but I also see many signs of resistance unfortunately. Some dig their heels in and resist positive change...it can be frustrating.

It seems to me the root problem of our medical system is what generates money instead of what we need to to correct the medical condition.

When you go to a hospital, there should be access to the best foods including targeted nutrition using suppliments. I recently saw an article, sponsored by a drug company, listing suppliments that inhibit perscribed drugs or make the perscribed drugs more dangerous than they already are.

The problem is not the suppliments. The problem is the prescribed drugs that do not allow the person to eat any food that is good for you.

The percentage of people disproving of the article promoting the drugs to the exclusion of real nutrition was 65%. So the public even knows better than the drug companies do.

"Suppliments" (just plain veggetables) are what makes us work. Without good nutrition, it is not even posible to live full lives.

People need to speak up against the ill health that is being forced onto the population.

Nutrition yes is as important as the cells speaking to the genes and all the turn on and turn off's. However, We all could use a little recap on how to treat people in our daily lives. How to react to life in general with our emotions, as our emotions can calm our cells imo, and our thoughts can make us aware of our environment and our material and spritirual necessities.
So thoughts are things., You can dream anything before you go to sleep by preparing your mind for a dream you need, and I think when we are asleep it is our best chance to change anything within ourselves. He makes you think. Thanks Arianna. Xo
