'Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea': Chelsea Handler Show Preview (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/17/11 01:40 PM ET Updated: 07/17/11 06:12 AM ET

Chelsea Handler's got a starring role in the brand new NBC show based on her memoir. Weird, then, that she's playing her own worst enemy.

NBC, which announced last week the series pickup of the memoir-based "Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea," unveiled a long teaser trailer for the show, which actually stars "That 70's Show" alum Laura Preppon in the thinner-than-paper "fictional" role of Chelsea Hanson. With the series based on her younger, wilder days, Handler herself plays Sloane, her (well, Preppon as her) older, pregnant, born again Christian sister.

The trailer contains plenty of canned laughter for what are largely easy jokes about DUI, alcoholism and STD's. So, for now, what seems to be a network-scrubbed version of Handler's talk show on E!, "Chelsea Lately." The show doesn't have a slot in the initial NBC lineup, but considering the shuffling the network has produced each season, it should hit airwaves sooner than later.

I used to like CH, she can be very funny. But she is becoming more and more of a pig. Raunch has become a major part of her act. But I do like the little Hispanic sidekick she has..

I used to love Chelsea...but of late she is so vulgar and obnoxious---worse than Roseann Barr!

From the clip, the show looks awful and not funny at all. It used the laugh track too much, and you get a feeling that NBC has a huge disaster on its hands. This lame preview just underscores how untalented she is. Besides, we all know how she became famous. She hooked up with her boss in 2006 and was then rewarded with a late night show in 2007. Nepotism, anyone? Hey, she even bragged about taking advantage of him in her routines. Later she told Newsweek that Asians, blacks, and Russians annoy her. I won't support someone intolerant like her. Pass.

You say intolerant. I say brutally honest.

Yeah, right. Handler is so honest that she lies about everything from her relationship with her corrupt boss to her s-e-x tape to her disdain for minorities. LOL.

This show belongs on cable, where they can really cut loose. A continuing story about a supposed "morals optional" hero can't go too far when they aren't allowed to get controversial. Remember how lame Fonzie "the rebel outsider" was?

OK, if it's on opposite this hot mess, I now have a reason to watch "Charlie's Angels."
