Google announced Monday that, in collaboration with the Newseum, it will launch the Journalists Memorial Channel on YouTube. Google said on its blog that it wants “to remember the journalists who have died in the last year while reporting news around the world."
This channel will become a digital version of the Newseum’s Journalists Memorial, which is re-dedicated annually to honor journalists worldwide who have died during the preceding year. This year, 77 names are being added to the list of the more than 2,000 journalists who have been recognized for their sacrifices since 1837.
The page features a collection of videos by and about journalists who have been killed. Google is asking users to submit -- and vote on -- videos about journalists who appear on the memorial. So far, there are 74 videos in the collection.
