Meet Monica Velour

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What appealed to you about playing Monica Velour?

KIM CATTRALL: First of all, it's a character you don't see very often because there's nothing empowering and uplifting about her. She's a narcissist and she's in a real bind, and you see her in this very difficult time in her life where she needs to turn a page. Then she meets a young man who also needs to turn a page, and then they actually help each other do it. It reminded me very much of Harold and Maude, of two different people in two different points in this crazy world that they inhabit. For me, there were many dimensions to this character. Rarely do you see that in a film script. I'm not a personality actress. I never have been. I have been a character actress.

Maybe the paycheck has something to do with her fondness for the character.

I don't think any strippers say "I'm liberated" when a bunch of men are staring at their naked bodies and putting dollars bills into their underwear.

I don't think any male strippers do it either.

Jee...is there anything worse than an aging Hollywood actress? They have the hardest road to toe of any profession, I think. Few of them age gracefully and their self-esteem is non-existant. Glad I didn't get into acting - you're done by, what, 32?

The stripper movie could be good, but another "SATC"?

she is contradicting herself. if she is all about female empowerment, why play vixens and strippers constantly? i recall tina louise (remember "ginger" from gilligan's island?) was disgusted with herself for taking that role because it diminished her work as a character actor. she went back to broadway (i believe) because of her convictions. not seeing that kind of dedication to purity in craft in ms. cattrall's proclamations or actions.

You've come a long way from "Lassie" in "Porky's", Ms. Cattrall.

The few things I have read about the movie, have sounded pretty good. I'll need to read a few more reviews before I decide if I'm willing to pay matinee or full price, but the reviews on IMDB are pretty decent.

Nothing says "I'm a feminist" like stripping in front of a crowd of men.

It depends on who you view as holding the power in the situation. Them, or her.
