AOL Travel News:

On Wednesday morning, Air Force One was approaching Bradley International Airport in Connecticut with President Obama on board when it aborted its landing due to bad visibility, the White House reports.

Air Force One's pilot did a "go-round" of the airport, circling due to safety concerns at 9:50am, the FAA reports.

The FAA reported to ABC News that visibility was "below the minimum", indicating that the pilots could not see the runway from the altitude required to guarantee a safe landing.

I bet George wishes there was fog that fateful day he landed on the aircraft carrier to proclaim to the world mission accomplished.

The press trying to make an everyday occurance in aviation into a important story.

Pilots following the correct procedure is not news worthy.

They didn't land because they couldn't see Connecticut? Oh oh...Massachusetts needs attention. Just like Wisconsin...two states that just sit there on a map, like a wall flower...needs attention.

Reading this article gave me an idea for a joke that would probably lose me a lot of fans, so I shall refrain.

I think FBI better check the pilot. Now I don't think it was an isolated incident when same thing happened to Michell's flight last month.

I never heard this type of incidents when Bushie on board the AF1.

That's because the press didn't announce every single move Bush made, including his bathroom visits.

You are right because Bush's f....ups are so many that the press couldn't devote times to aborted landings.

You are right.

B/0/0shs f ups are so many that the press hardly had any time to his AF1's aborted landings.

My husband was an airline pilot, this is NO biggie, just more headlines that do not make sense this is done ALL the time. To call it an aborted landing is such an exaggeration it is ridiculous, they just go around, not abort.

99.5% of all fights under operational control fly instrument approaches (unless it is more expeditious to cancel instrument flight rules and go visual. The missed approach procedure is actually part of the published instrument approach for that runway. doesn't matter if you are flying a piper cub or a E6 (747) the pilot didn't have the runway environment in view he waved off... no big deal ...

BUT ... in the picture accompanying the article in the background is that the famous Soviet built AN-124 so um where was AF1 landing exactly ???

The real story is that the fog was created by Joe Liberman blowing smoke.

This was NOT an aborted landing, it was a missed approach following the published missed approach procedure. There is a big difference. it is so common as to be unremarkable.

Category IIIc approaches are not done at civilian airports in the US. The main difficulty is after landing, what do you do? You can see absolutely nothing out the windows; it is like someone painted the windows white (or black). I am sure AF1 is equipped but few airports are.

Air Force One engages in flight operations using standard procedures while the President is on board. What a story.

I think I've only had to go around maybe 3 times in my 6 years flying for largeglobalairfreightcorp.

Which means I usually screw it up because it's probably been quite a while since I last did one.
