Jason Mewes: Silent Bob, Podcasts And New Movie Roles (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/18/11 12:25 PM ET Updated: 07/18/11 06:12 AM ET

Jason Mewes is one half of the famed indie film team Jay and Silent Bob. Needless to say, he is not the silent one.

The foul-mouthed icon sat down with the Huffington Post to discuss his days making beloved comedies with his best friend, director Kevin Smith, as well as his new projects: his own channel on the Smodcast Podcast network and playing murderers on the big screen. And he also settles an important debate for his fans: Hollywood or New Jersey?

He can't distribute a film in Canada. It is considered International. It has been known for a while that the independent distribution was US only and Smith would engage international distributors. ..

Kevin Smith can take a break from recoloring 'Mall Rats 2 revenge of the pledge, " Clerks 2 electric boogalou ." Suck-wells don't work for him no matter how great he feels about his work .

I've seen Smith live twice, the second time with a bunch of the smodders after the Walter Gretzky (Wayne's adorable dad) Street Hockey tournament. He's brilliant.. he can talk for hours and keep you entertained. If Sheen had taken a page from Smith's book, his live shows wouldn't have tanked so badly.

I'm happy for Mewes that he's sober and doing well and I'll watch anything Smith makes because even his lesser works are funnier than a lot of the buddy movies that pass for comedies.

There aren't enough hours in the day to listen to all the smodcasts and that's a shame because they're all worth listening to.

If there is ever a new Jay and Silent Bob movie, I can honestly say I have the best idea ever.

Jay and Silent Bob meet Cheech and Chong

Though I have fond memories of C&C, I think Harold and Kumar would make a better team up if they ever went with a franchise merger like that. Cheech and Chong are both getting pretty old now. Maybe they could put all three duos together and have them meet at the apartment of James Franco's character from Pineapple Express. I'm sure Seth Rogen would appear in that movie for free.

I've always understood it this way: after Red State, Kevin Smith had one more movie in him (a hockey film called Hit Somebody), and after that, he would retire from film-making. He's really dove into the podcast/internet radio thing, and it wouldn't surprise me if there were other writing ventures he wanted to pursue. And frankly, as much as I love his Jay & Silent Bob movies, I hope he is done with them -- because, really, what's left?

They should take a long break and have a movie that shows them as old men.

I think Smith should do a Clerks movie every decade. I want to see how Dante and Randal get along in this economy as 40-something service workers. I see Clerks 3 with Dante as a single dad trying to protect his child from Randal's bad influences.
03:36 PM on 05/18/2011
ya, except they would not be service workers anymore since they bought the quik stop at the end of 2 but still im with ya.

I love all of the View Askewiverse films, even the one most others hate. And I could keep watching Jay & Silent Bob in new stuff for the next 20 years. I think they have the potential to be the Abbott & Costello or Laurel & Hardy of our time. But if Smith is burnt on it and feels that he is out of ideas, I support his decision to bow out of the industry.

I loved "Clerks". Saw it 5 times in the theater when it came out... after that it's pretty much been downhill for Kevin Smith and the Jay and Silent Bob characters. Some funny lines\scenes in the other movies but nothing close to the comedy genius of the original. Sorry. In my opinion of course...

I thought Chasing Amy was the best movie Kevin Smith made, and then it was (a steep) downhill from there.

My opinion....

"What's a Nubian?"... I'll grant you that scene was HYSTERICAL! ;-)
09:18 PM on 05/18/2011
Agreed, Chasing Amy had some of the sharpest dialog imo that Smith has ever written. It was a powerful yet vastly underrated movie that deserves more credit and yes the following movies that Smith has done since pale by comparison.
