Due to unseasonably convenient weather conditions, Aspen Mountain will reopen for Memorial Day skiing. Aspen Skiing Company today announced that the top of the mountain can open 25 runs and 136 acres with the potential to stay open for additional weekends as weather conditions allow.
Vice President of mountain operations Rich Burkley told the Aspen Business Journal:
We haven’t had summer conditions this good since 2008. We figure that if we open for skiing maybe it will quit snowing. We encourage everyone to go up and make a few turns then jump on your bike, hit the trails or swing the golf club. It’s certainly a unique opportunity to enjoy everything the valley has to offer.
Ski-lovers can thank the record snowpack for the reopening of the mountain. Snow as recently as yesterday helped add to the 71 inches measured on the peak.
Skiing begins at the 11,212-foot summit on the Silver Queen Gondola.
