Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno Also Booed At William Paterson University

Kim Guadagno

Chris Christie is now not the only person in New Jersey that has been loudly booed while giving a commencement speech.

At William Patterson University's graduation ceremony on Wednesday, Christie's lieutinant governor, Kim Guadagno, was also derided. During her 13 minute speech, students yelled things like, "Go home," and "Nobody cares." More than 100 turned their backs to her and some put their fingers in their ears.

Guadagno made it through her speech, although at one point she responded to the protestors.

"Come on, let it out," she told them, as they booed. "We've got all day."

William Patterson students had been organizing the protest for some months, ever since Guadagno was selected as speaker. She and Christie have presided over heavy cuts to higher education in the state.

"The funding cuts have led to higher costs for students and bigger class sizes," Daniela Jorge, a student organizer of the protest told the Daily Record. "Somebody came up to me and said, 'Thank you so much for doing this. I'm $55,000 in debt and have a zero bank account. Something has to be done.' "

The leftist elites who run universities have successfully educated students that they have little personal responsibility. Political science and studies majors whining about the fact that they spent four years playing around in a soft major and now can't find a job.

Apparently the best way to get a quality education is to be an illegal alien Dream Act recipient; or to move to California and have the govt. (aka taxpayers) pick up the majority of your tuition bills (so long as your family makes less than 80k).

I think it was unwise for these particular people to have been invited to give commencement speeches. However, considering how some people hooted and hollered over the would-be LSU flag-burner being shouted down when he tried to speak a few weeks back, I'm wondering if those same people were protesting the Gov./Lt. Gov. given the same treatment?

"come on, let it out" she does not have a grip on reality

does she think that after the yelling and protesting everything will be better just because they "let it out"?
How simplistic. She and her buddy need to go back the drawing board and rethink some things

I find it despicable that these colleges hire these no good politicians to speak at their colleges and pay them money while they are cutting funds for education. what is wrong with these people. Brains must not be in abundance

GOOD. It's the only way the rest of us know others are paying attention. Keep booing LOUDLY. We can't allow tyranny to win the day.

There is hope for this country if our young college grads realize the fraud that is being perpetrated by the TeaPublican party.....

Stay thirsty -----for knowledge----- my young friends!

Chris Christie was not elected by the Tea Party. There was a tax revolt in the state before the Tea Party got off the ground. If you don't know these things, what else do you not know?

I live just across the river in PA and I've heard more about NJ's tax situation than anything else coming from the state... for over 30 years. I'm beginning to think of renaming it 'California East'.
And until real reform comes about that balances the needs for public service, education, law enforcement and small business, the same old political farce will play out for each governor.

Did she seriously say 'come on let it out', 'we've got all day' to a group of college graduates!? Their not in fifth grade complaining over a hard assignment, they are protesting how you and your dough boy buddy screwed their future, what a...
01:54 PM on 05/21/2011
They also don't know the difference between a silent protest and a bunch of hecklers.

Not to mention that they weren't all new graduates. 2 of them were faculty members as well as parents of the graduates, most of whom were education majors.

It's just Democrats heckling Republicans. The audience reaction to the hecklers was not that favorable.

OMG...you sound exactly like the people, 30 some years ago, who said "not all the Kent State shooting victims were students".

Commencement is suppose to be a festive, positive time, one that recognizes a milestone in a student's life...too bad these schools could not engage more positive individuals as their speakers.
01:55 PM on 05/21/2011
It depends on which New Jerseyans and attendants you talk to. Plenty of them seem to be angry with the hecklers.

Well said.  AND it only guarantees the citizens the right to speak out against government.  Which is exactly what these grads were doing.

the only way this nation will see any recovery is if the college age youth finally revolt en masse. revolutions in every nation throughout time have been led by the youth that has had enough of the corruption by the ruling class.

unfortunately, our youth is too stupified by gadgetry and blinky lights. the corporations have done well over the last two decades, dumbing down the average student while feeding them plenty of distractions. they figured out that toys and trinkets which foster "individuality" also fosters disassociation. "united we stand" has never been better demonstrated by its counterpoint, DIVIDED WE FALL.

as long as we continue to embrace the 21st century pretzel logic that individuals can get ahead while the rest of society keeps falling behind, we're doomed.
11:22 AM on 05/21/2011
Oh, oh, oh, I hope more of this comes about. Everyone should turn their backs on them.
10:17 AM on 05/21/2011
They are getting booed and heckled by education majors who thought they were on their way to employment in the state's public education system. New Jersey is in the middle of a very difficult economic downturn. Young, middle class college graduates are fleeing the high taxes. Established middle and upper middle class parents are leaving as well.

These hecklers may have to go back to college for more marketable (and difficult to attain) degrees.

you're a broken record, COSTELLO.

teachers unions, high taxes. teacher's unions, high taxes. we get it. that's all you know how to say. you said it a half dozen times in this thread alone.

i don't know where you got your education, but it's a well known fact, and has been for ages, that teachers make very little salary. paying teachers is not what's draining state coffers. demonizing teachers, simply because they're unionized, is a lame attack by the rich.

secondly, NJ has been known for high taxes for ages. and NJ residents paid the taxes because once upon a time, NJ public education was among the best in the state. I doubt it is now, and the reason is clear. the money isn't getting to the schools, and isn't being spent on the students. administration is keeping the cash for themselves, as college deans and political appointees rake in higher salaries than ever.

how 'bout you stop being a dooooshe and offer some more enlightening commentary than the same ol' talking points you were taught by FauxSnooz.
12:49 PM on 05/21/2011
LOL FauxSnooz. I'm sure I can turn to obsessed libs like you to tell me what talking points were regurgitated during the previous nights broadcast.

NJ has been known for high taxes for ages.....yeah they should just get used to having their paychecks gouged by the state.

Gee I guess we should all work for the state in some capacity.

"......hecklers may have to go back to college for more marketable (and difficult to attain) degrees."

Who's teaching all of those REALLY smart people who go for those more marketable (and difficult to attain) degrees now? (What a lame swipe at teachers -- )

But it sounds like you have it figured out -- It won't be long before The Garden State has a new nickname --- Mississippi of the North.
01:25 AM on 05/22/2011
Professors are.

The swipe at Mississippi (which has nothing to do with the article) says more about you than it does about me.

In New Jersey it's public labor unions as much as big business. Democrats have controlled the state for many, many years. How does Chris Christie get elected in a blue state like New Jersey?

... And one of the lowest voter turnouts in recent history. Christie wasn't voted in, Corzine was voted out. He didn't win the election, he defaulted to victory.

Don't expect this plague to last long.

I am from Jersey and I have never seen such buyers remorse amongst the the middle class. The taxes are still high and the only thing that has changed with the republicans in office is crappier schools and public services.
