Bids For Princess Beatrice's Bizarre Royal Wedding Hat Pass $120,000

LONDON — Auction site eBay says a bidder has offered 75,000 pounds ($120,000) for the spiraling headpiece worn by Princess Beatrice to last month's royal wedding.

The 22-year-old granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II startled commentators with the swirling hat she wore to the wedding of her cousin Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The silk Philip Treacy creation has been compared to antlers, a toilet seat and a pretzel, and has been photoshopped into scores of unlikely scenarios on the Internet.

Beatrice has taken the joke in stride and put the hat on sale for charity. Proceeds will go to UNICEF and Children in Crisis.

On Saturday 38 bidders were competing for the hat, described on eBay as a "unique sculptural celebratory headpiece."

The auction ends Sunday.

Well all I can say is, she had guts! But in shadow she did look like Alice Cooper!!! At least it raised a lot of cash for Charity.. may be that was the idea all along?

As soon as I saw the hat, I realized it was a stylized version of a True Lover's Knot & I felt it was just totally fun. You have to be young to wear this and Bea did it with flair! My husband didnt like the hat but he has no flair..I on the other hand, have a tad too much. Her Majesty wore the same type of pin right on her dress that day. Open your heart and just enjoy it! If you are Bea's age you SHOULD wear these things now. when youre 60 you'll be wishing you had. Bless Bea for being such a good sport and such a nice girl. For the media who wanted to make her look like a fool..I have to say the joke is on you so stop manipulating.

The eye makeup reminded me of Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner and the hat looked like a pretzel hat from Springtime for Hitler. The girls seemed to be doing their best not to top the bride.
