Amazon's Lady Gaga 'Born This Way' Download Deal Causes Delays

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/23/11 07:33 PM ET Updated: 07/23/11 06:12 AM ET

Lady Gaga Amazon

Amazon has been offering an incredible deal today, almost giving away Lady Gaga's "Born This Way."

The album download is just 99 cents, and comes with an upgrade to 20 gigabytes of cloud music storage, if buyers are already subscribed to Amazon's cloud music service.

According to All Things D, the same album goes for $11.99 on iTunes, and $15.99 for the special edition.

However, things seem to be too good to be true to some extent. The Wall Street Journal reports that the deal has slowed the downloads to a crawl, even cutting some users off.

Many of the reviews are now negative, largely because of the inability to download the full album, according to WSJ.

Amazon's Cloud Drive, which launched back in March stirred a lot of controversy at the time, largely because it riled the music companies and seemed to be a potential threat for iTunes. However, the service doesn't seem to have made huge waves, perhaps explaining this outrageous deal.

Amazing album- I got my copy yesterday and I'm listening to it now! Love love love it.

She is this generation's Dale Bozzio, can't wait to cringe with everyone as we look back in 10 years... Oh the power of marketing. Has anyone heard the music she wrote for herself back when she was just marketing herself as Stefani Germanotta? She was still marketing her body back then, as she does now, but instead of doing so to pop music and dance beats it was instead set to falsetto, whiny, uninspired piano ballads... Good to see what her actual/honest artistic direction was/is though, I suppose. Then some producer got a hold of her, added some dance beats, and had her show some more skin- the rest is history. If you'd like to hear what she actually wrote/created before the marketers got a hold of her, you can visit here ---> www.myspace.com/stefanigermanottaband Personally, neither is my cup of tea...

Wow, just took a listen to some of the tracks via that MySpace link. Absolutely terrible stuff. Perhaps that ex-boyfriend who sued her claiming that he wrote a large number of her best songs was onto something.

I agree, it's painfully obvious how prefabricated Lazy Blah Blah is... Here is an unbiased article about Blah Blah's creation ---> http://www.billboard.com/news/lady-gaga-sued-by-producer-rob-fusari-1004076925.story#/news/lady-gaga-sued-by-producer-rob-fusari-1004076925.story

I downloaded the album from the Pirate Bay, listened and considered it to be "Scheiße". I already deleted it. Not worth keeping or buying.

You should BUY the latest Foo Fighters album instead, that's quality.

No. It sounds like he is a borrower. If he kept it he would be a thief.

That seems pretty unfair to give the album a negative review just because Amazon had a problem.

As to the problem itself, it's not that surprising. When someone tries to do something like this, there are often difficulties. It's certainly a good deal. Unfortunately, it seems as if Amazon wasn't prepared for the response.

It's typical for Amazon. The packaging wasn't right or it shipped late so the review section is where they let loose and make the rating system more unreliable than it needs to be. They could have used the comments section or emailed support with their grievance, but that would be too difficult for them and the world wouldn't notice they were special. Meh. It reminds me of the time the book 'Game Change' came out but wasn't yet available for the Kindle. You can guess what happened. A number of Kindle lovers said "1 star until it's on the Kindle," or words to that effect. As I said before, it's typical.

Yikes. I've never had a problem with Amazon, in hundreds of orders. But then again, I never did a digital order with them.

The article made it sound as if the album got negative reviews.

Gotcha.

When I tried to dnl it to my phone or laptop I had issues. But once I decided to just dnl it to the cloud service then to my phone there were no problems. So basically they wanted you to use the cloud service for the deal. It's all about advertising I guess.

Actually, you should have been able to download. However, there is an advantage to having it placed on your cloud drive first. Any music that is placed on the cloud drive first is not counted against storage limits. Music downloaded when you pay and then later uploaded to the cloud drive will not have this benefit.

People really still buy music? You can get it for free all day long on torrent sites.

I still buy music at the music store. I like having the commercial CD and it turns into an instant archive when I put the music on the computer.

Technically, illegal downloads are NOT theft. It is copyright infringement. The
Supreme Court ruled that it is not theft because the original person still has the item.

I know "copyright infringer" doesn't have that same zing when you are insulting someone though.

Doesn't the word "outrageous" imply some level of outrage? Or are we living in the early 1960s when the word "outrageous" is applied to bright colors and bouffant hair?

Got mine today in the afternoon for 99 cents, downloaded to two devices, will play from cloud on the third. Hey, it takes you a bit longer to download because of high demand? Whiners. If you can't wait, pay full price on iTunes.

Real competition would have a real service. But I give a hand to Amazon for inventing clown computing from cloud computing.

Undercutting to 10% of market price is now "real competition"? Since when? That's called anti-competitive practices and if it becomes a regular technique for Amazon its only time until theyr are investigated and found guilty.
