Since 2010, Pepsi has been on a mission to dole out $20 million in grants through its Pepsi Refresh Project to non-profits, businesses, and individuals that promote a new idea that has a positive impact on their community -- be it at the local, state or national level.
Applicants vie for grants at the $5K, $25K, and $50K level, distributed across categories like Health, Arts & Culture, Food & Shelter, the Planet, Neighborhoods and Education. The most fun part, perhaps, is that these community-focused grantees are selected by the public who can vote by visiting refresheverything.com.
With no further ado, here are 12 past winners and the amazing achievements they accomplished thanks, in part, to their Pepsi Refresh Project grant money. The projects range from funding a documentary about the BP oil spill to installing a wind turbine at a high school in Iowa and ensuring that foreign language education in Harlem continues.
